A lot of students decided to attend. They filled the room, each one taking a seat, the multiple tables all circling towards the front of the room. A woman stood at the front of the room, and at the back there were posters with various information. Right at the center of the front of the room, a giant poster with the words “STARR Career Development Center.”
On Wednesday, November 15th 2017, I attended the On Campus Recruiting (or OCR) Workshop, organized by the Baruch career development center. It went over numerous factors and considerations that students have to be concerned about when looking and applying for jobs, both through organizations recruiting through campuses, and outside job searches.
I learnt about perfecting my resume, and how to format it right. Many students often end up having badly drafted (and sometimes badly worded) resumes that can potentially cause an interviewer to dismiss their resume entirely, no matter how right they might be for the job. Thus, I really need this information, as someone who is constantly stressed about how my resume should look, and what all it should or shouldn’t contain.
We also went over how to act during interviews. We went over the whole interview process, and the importance of creating a pleasing and amicable image to the person interviewing you. Though, I was pretty informed about this information (since we’re all taught to make good impressions), but, nevertheless, it was a good refresher.
Another important topic we went over was how to use the STARR website. Baruch can often be very complicated, and quite vague in giving new students instructions on how to deal with this complexity, thus, learning how to use the STARR website helped me out a lot.
Overall, I’ve been wanting to go to a career workshop for a really long time now, and I’m glad I attended this one.
