On Friday, September 8, 2017, I decided to go to museum at Fashion Institute of Technology. The museum is located inside of the State University of New York Fashion Institute of Technology, I chose this museum because when I did research on which museum to go to, museum at FIT’s website had a exhibition called Force Of Nature. They were explaining how much impact nature had in fashion. I was curious and wanted to find out how fashion and nature came together, and how it was changed through out the years.
Force of Nature showed me the connections between fashion and nature. Many of the fashion pieces different elements which you can visibly see and tell immediately what animal the piece was influenced by. For example the Gucci shoes in the display, ever since being inspired from the 19th century art piece, the brand Gucci had been adding images of animals onto their shoes. From the first leather canvas from 2016 to their recent leather sneakers that young adults have been obsessed with. Sneakers with snakes, flowers, or tigers on the sides of the sneaker with signature Gucci strips. They were inspired by nature.
Nature helps designers to bring out diverse products and inspire them to come out with unique and products that are out of ordinary.
The museum itself is quit small. I finished checking out the whole museum within 30minutes. Museum at FIT is free for everyone. I recommend checking them out if any of the upcoming exhibitions seems interesting to you.
