GIM for AKPsi

Last Thursday, September 7th, my friends and I went to the General Interest Meeting for Alpha Kappa Psi, a co-education business fraternity. I found out about the meeting when one of the members handed me a flyer the day before. At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to attend the meeting; the fact that it was a fraternity really threw me off. However, one of my upperclassman friends who previously took part in the events, encouraged me to attend. At the General Interest Meeting, we helped make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the poor. It was two hours long, so I used my time wisely and introduced myself to various different people. The meeting helped me establish many meaningful connections, that could possibly help me in the future. After the meeting, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to join the fraternity. My parents were especially concerned about my involvement, because of the bad representation fraternities receive. But once I explained to them the kind of charity work we did that day, they were on board. So I decided that I’m going to give it a try. To enter I need to quality for an interview, which means I need to attend at least two more of their events. The members of the fraternity that I have met so far tell me that showing interest and establishing a strong network will help my chances greatly. Many members also informed me of their past experiences, and how the fraternity has helped them receive internships and jobs. By then, I knew that this fraternity was something I definitely wanted to invest my time in. It seems like a great opportunity to make friends and connections while doing charitable work. I really hope to be accepted by the fraternity. I think Alpha Kappa Psi is the gateway to having a successful time inside and outside of Baruch.
