Three weeks ago, on a Thursday, my friends and I went to the club fair after the first day of freshman seminar. There we saw some clubs and organizations but none caught our attention. Then when we went to the furthest corner of the club fair, we saw the ESA club. It was the E-Sports Association Club (not the Entrepreneur Association Club, my friend thought it was). The purpose of the club was to have an environment where people could feel welcomed and play games in school. The club members gave off a friendly vibe (at least the people promoting it) but if not for its purpose, I wouldn’t have paid any attention to the club since it blended in as one of those generic clubs.
Two weeks later, again on a Thursday, the General Interest Meeting was held. It started a bit since there were complications. The president had come into the room a bit late and out of breath and before she tried to regain her breath, she started the meeting. She explained that the club had a team for almost every competitive game out there even the most recent ones. Soon we were being divided into groups depending on which games we played and the icebreakers started there. Honestly, the icebreaker games weren’t the most well thought out but you could see the effort the executives were putting to make them fun. For my group, we had to choose our favorite characters and imitate one of our favorite abilities from that character. It was cringy but it helped lighten the mood and make everyone laugh. Soon after the icebreakers, the vice president announced that they would open team tryouts for whichever competitive game you wanted to try out in. My friends and I joined this club to get on the team and that’s how we planned to get involved.
