Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DFB

The undergraduate job fair was pretty interesting. The lines were especially long for the different banks that were there. It made sense though, many people that were there were mainly looking for undergraduate college juniors or seniors. Freshman was rarely a choice there for job searching. It was pretty interesting how each company was making their pitch to lure in curious onlookers. I went to quite a few and most of them actually had a lot of good freebies as well. I got a small boat stress toy from one of them. Out of many companies visited, there were some that were willing to hire freshman. I got hired through one of them through this career fair. It’s great how the school offers do many opportunities throughout the year. It gives a better insight to preparing ourselves for the upcoming years when we actually need to get internships. I am very glad I came to this school because it helps the students strive to become what they would want to do for their careers, in the future.

The Met trip

The Metrepolitan Museum Of Art visit was with a lot of students in the same art class as I was. My favorite part of the museum was where they held the old paintings in the past as well as the wax sculptures. The wax sculptures were or horses and poses in the past. I was especially amazed by the horse sculptures, since for me, even drawing horses were difficult. The paintings ranged from different art techniques used in their works of art. Each time period had a certain style that was used when the artists painted. One for example that stood out to me was The North Cape by Moonlight by Peder Balke. The light coming from the clouds shines on the people on the boat in the water. The other area that I was at the location where I took the selfie. The way that the room was layed out to suit visitors. The other places that I visited were with the Native Americans and the Greece area. The greek area had a lot of busts that were displayed out for the visitors to see.

Work study day 1 Ivy event

The first day of my work study was an event called Ivy taking place in the Engelman Recital Hall. From what I remember, there was an inspirational speaker there. Before that happened, another student worker as well as my friend, Alice, was there cleaning the theatre prior to me getting there. I helped her with the sweeping, but since it was too quiet, it was a better idea to get some music while we were cleaning. We were then introduced to another worker as well. After we were done with cleaning, we had a tour with another worker at Baruch’s Performing Arts center. Through this tour, I have learned more of the passages and the necessary routes for people to take if there were the need for it. I have also learned more about the different Halls such as the Engelman Recital Hall, Mason Hall, The Rose Nagelberg Theatre, and The Bernie West Theatre. The halls could be rented for people’s own usage which answered the question of why there was Ivy people there. Our roles for the day were to guide people to the right destination. In this case, it was to bring them down for the reception and then the speech. We had to spot and speak in a certain manner because we had to be professional in our job. It was beneficial to see by example of how it were to look so we can act the same way. My first shift was to guide people downstairs to the location theatre. It was beneficial that I was wearing all black in a somewhat professional attire. By standing near the IVY sign and by having the dressed look. It made it easier for the people to spot me and ask me of the event location. By talking to more people, I became adjusted to changing my speech in a manner that got the directions in a direct and short manner. After this was cleaning up and joining the others. This experience really gave me a small taste of how the events and performances would be held.
