Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DWC

Blog Post #3- Academic

Ever since the beginning of the semester I have been making use of the amazing library that Baruch provides us with. It’s the perfect place to go when I have free time in between classes. I love that there are so many seating options to suit whatever I’m feeling on a given day, whether it be a desk or just lounging around. I also like that there are many computer stations available if I don’t feel like using my own computer or don’t have it. It’s nice to know that there is always someone there to assist with anything; right at the help desk. Although I haven’t needed any assistance so far, I’m happy that there will be people ready and waiting when I do need them. It’s also nice to know there’s so many resources available for whatever it is I’m working on. My favorite part though, is the atmosphere. It’s always comforting and calm, I find that I’m able to focus on my work best at the library. I will definitely use the library more throughout my college experience.

Blog Post #2- Career

Last Wednesday (October 4th), I visited the STARR Career Development Center. I don’t have a job currently so I’m interested in taking all the necessary steps to get one. The first thing I need to do is write a resume and cover letter, which is what I went to STARR for. When I walked in I noticed how calm and welcoming the environment is which made me feel comfortable. As I didn’t have an appointment, I didn’t sign in, but I was still able to talk to someone. A counselor told me everything that STARR has to offer and I was a bit surprised at how much they do for students even though I had heard things before. They help with resumes and cover letters, finding jobs to fit with your major, interviews, and even the proper clothes to wear. When I asked about resumes I was given a packet that has everything I need to know about writing a resume and cover letter. I’m definitely going to go back again after I write my resume and more until I find the right job for me.

Blog Post #1- Student Life

On September 7th I went to the General Interest Meeting for the Baruch chapter of She’s The First. She’s the First is a nonprofit organization that focuses on Girls’ education around the world. They give girls in third-world countries the chance to be the first girl in their families to graduate high school and beyond. The Baruch chapter was put together only last semester, so it was very exciting to see so many people wanting to get involved. SIF raises money to fund education through various events. Getting involved in SIF is very important to me because ever since I was little I’ve been a feminist, even if it was just rooting for the girls’ team. Now that I’m older, I understand the privilege I have, even as a girl, having been born and raised in a country that takes everything for granted. I want all girls to be able to have an education that lets them rise to their full potential. I look forward to helping that become reality in the years to come.
