Freshman Seminar Fall 17 EMA

Hillel Career and Startup tech fair

The other week I had the distinct privilege of attending the Hillel Career and Startup tech fair. There was kosher food provided which was amazing and it was fairly delicious. We had hummus and tahini as well as a variety of pita and schnitzel. After I grabbed my seat with my friends, Sofa and Cyntia I had the distinct pleasure of introducing them to some Israeli and Jewish culture which they were wildly unfamiliar with. As the program proceeded I got to hear all about the things the amazing people on the panel had to say about how they attained the position they were currently holding and their journey through the startup nation. The startup nation was really cool to find out about. After the speaking, question and answer part of the presentation, I got to talk with many fellow students about our love for the land of Israel and our drive for devotion to success. As the program continued my business network really increased tenfold I got to meet so so many people who really related to me and had a deep and profound interest within in the business world revolving around Israel. The program was a huge success and being a part of the Hillel I was thrilled to see how well it turned out. In the aftermath of the event speaking to the heads of the Hillel they were very happy with how it went and it really was a launchpad for a lot of the students’ careers.  אני לא אוהב בלוג פוסט אבל אני אוהב ישראל.

Weissman Center for International Business

Last Tuesday I had the privilege of having a meeting with our very own FRO teacher Erin Kaplan. Erin works at the Dean of Students office. She was helping me get acquainted with all of the wonderful opportunities Baruch has to offer and iron out some details for me. My main concern was scheduling for winter and spring semesters. After many phone calls and many minutes on hold, we had obtained all the answers we were looking for. Before I left Erin asked if there were any other things that I had questions about. I realized that I needed information on study abroad opportunities and on my major (International Business). So with a little more research and help, she pointed me in the right direction and I could not have gotten all the information I needed without her. I was directed to the Weissman Center for International Business. Here is where they have all information regarding international business, study abroad, and internships. I spent a lot of time going over the study abroad opportunities with a student employee. Turns out there are endless options to choose from when looking to study abroad and the center really helps you sort through it all. After learning about the study abroad opportunities I shifted my attention to what the international business area had to offer. Turns out that the variety of occupations available with a degree in international business is only growing. After discussing where I was standing with other student employees I asked if I was able to sit down and meet with a head of the department. Now that I have a meeting with Sara for pre-advisory in the international business my nerves are finally calmed. The options offered to students here at Baruch is endless. From my experience, you can obtain everything you need with just a little bit of patience

Prayers at the Hillel

As a Jewish student here at Baruch having something that helps me connect to my Jewish identity is truly helpful. At 3:50 the Hillel in our vertical campus holds afternoon prayers, an essential part of my day. Right after freshman seminar, I like to go over there sometimes with my dear friend Andrew Teigman, and we interact with the local Jewish People and those who are interested in finding out more about Israel the Jewish state and their Jewish identity. Daily Prayers are an essential part of my day and I love experiencing this daily event especially at the Hillel where I am surrounded by not only the diversity of Baruch but by the diversity of the Jewish population here at Baruch. I have a profound enjoyment of religious and cultural experiences and love meeting new people. The Hillel at Baruch has provided me with the perfect environment for just that.
