This Tuesday November 21st, I went to STARR career development Internship Seminar. Because Tuesday was following a Friday schedule I had to go to school just for this event and was not very excited about it to be quite honest I thought it was going to be very boring. However, I am happy that I did attend I learned a lot of new information I did not know before about internships and the benefits of getting one. For example, the guy talked about why it is beneficial to my future to get internships now while I am still figuring out exactly what I want to do with my future. The guy mentioned that getting internships will help get a better understanding of what working in the future will be like and finding a good environment that I would like to work in. Also, taking internships will help gateway into what you want to do in for your career. Another point the speaker mentioned was that by taking these internships people who look to hire you in the future will see all the experience you have are more likely to hire you because of it. Additionally, taking an internship in a certain company can lead to an actual paying job with that company. All in all, I am glad I went to the seminar and learned many new things and reasons why I should get internships. After attending this seminar I have started to look for internships that I could possibly get that have to do with my intended major Journalism. FRO really helped and opened me up to new events within the school and different opportunities that I did not know about before. With out having to do these blogs I wouldn’t of learned about the opportunities I am missing out on (like getting an internship).

Metropolitan Museum of Art
This past weekend I visited the MET and wandered my way around taking in the beautiful art pieces. It was surreal to me to see some paintings that I have seen in pictures during my art classes up close and personal. The MET has wonderful paintings from Van Gogh to Monet and each techniques used in the paintings are so creative. The classes realistic art is definitely my favorite to look it. It is amazing to see paintings that look like it was photographed but, it is paint put together on a canvas. These types of artists always seemed more talented to me because the details in their paintings stuck out to me more and the amount of time it must have taken them to complete something so life like is incredible to me. On the other hand, I also really liked the modern art which is very different than realist art but, these paintings were always so unique and creative to me they also spoke to me and stood out to me. One of the pieces of the modern art collection in the MET is thirteen panels and each of them are solid colors but they turn into the other to make it look faded into one another, the colors of this piece are so vibrant and the use of colors in each panel is so wonderful and it is really satisfying to look at. Walking throughout the museum was very peaceful and relaxing but, it was an amazing experience. The sculptures were also very interesting to look at especially the ones in the European rooms because each of them were so life like and again it is incredible to see what one person can do with a some stone and clay. Overall my experience in the MET was wonderful and I will definitely go again to enjoy more art.
BAC
On Thursday 9/14, I attended a BAC (Baruch athletic council meeting). At this meeting we talked about promoting Baruch athletics and different ways to support each team. Also, in this council there are different sub-committees I can be apart of. I have the option of helping internally at Baruch and help run some sports activities inside the school, I can help run external activities that involves Baruch athletes, for example, each team is going to have to send some players to a learning center where they will play with children and read to them, and finally I can help with marketing and promote big events going on at Baruch on social media pages. At this meeting I learned new ways I can get involved with sports, that doesn’t just include playing on a team. Being apart of this committee would involve me more in Baruch and I can help try to diversify who is attending sports games and also, help improve each teams morals by getting them more involved with the Baruch community.
