FRO Blog- Career

This past Tuesday, I attended a network campaign at the Javits Center, located in West Of New York City. This event included many types of businesses presentations and mentor ships, such as the fields of Financial, Real Estate, Jewelry, Medical and Law. I was able to view many types of career choices in this exhibition program and was able to ask many questions. Questions included, whats your typical day schedule? What specific work is expected at this particular major? Do you enjoy what your doing? Not only were we able to see specific leaders at specific booths, but some parts of the companies offered mentor ship presentations on their pathways to where they are today. The leaders representing their specific career gave me a lot of advise towards what major I am planning on pursuing in the future. I would definitely want to attend another one of these networking career days, just to be able to learn more about specific majors from people who actually work at companies.

Blog Post 2- Writing Workshop

Last Thursday, I attended the Writing Center in order to help me with my English paper thats due in the upcoming days. At the writing center, I signed up for a Peer Review session. Whats different of a Peer Review session than a regular one-on-one session is that in a Peer Review session you get to work with many other students, as well as, have a mentor to help everyone. What we did at the Peer review session is everyone read their papers and we all, as a group, gave feedback to each person individually based on their own writing piece. What I liked about the Peer Review session is that I was able to get feedbacks from multiple people, as opposed to just one person. This allowed me to fix all types of mistakes in my paper, as well as, being sure there is not any mistakes to be worried about. Sometimes as a writer, when I revision my work I get scared Im forgetting something, and even if I ask someone for their help, I still feel a bit concerned that we both missed a mistake. With have multiple people check over my work, I was confident in my writing and hopeful that it can get a great grade. I also liked how now I developed new strategies of writing, by listening to the feedback given by others. The more feedback I get, the more strategies I learned for the future. The Writing Center is definitely a place I will keep coming back to in my time at Baruch.

Blog Post #1- Student Life

Hey everyone!

Last week Thursday, September 7, I attended the Hillel at Baruch club. Hillel at Baruch is a club known to engage every Jewish university student, from those with strong Jewish backgrounds to those with none at all. As a Jewish student myself, it felt satisfying knowing that there are people in the school who follow the same religion as me, and will go as far as going to clubs in order to keep these practices. The club starts with the directors giving out food, and then having the students listen to a guess speaker. Last Thursday, we were lucky to have a cancer survivor as a guess speaker. Noah Benter is an Israeli singer who was diagnosed with cancer at age 30, yet came back and carried on with her career in singing. She talked to us about her experience with having cancer, how we should feel if dealing with cancer, and how to help support someone with cancer. It wrapped up with her getting a standing ovation from the crowd, as well as, her showing us some of her hit singles.

In the future, I wish to attend this club on a daily basis. Not only does it come with great food and a fascinating speaker, but a similar crowd that will help me keep my roots.
