Blog #2

After reading everyone’s blog, I must say this assignment allowed us to open up with each other more and helped us realize basically we all are the same. It’s the idea that at times, some may feel as though they’re the only one going through a specific situation. With this assignment it helped us realize we all go through the same things, experience some of the same situations, and most of all, through these experiences, we are not alone. I guess you can say this assignment was one of my most favorite assignments I’ve done so far since I’ve been in school. It was useful in allowing my classmates and I get the opportunity to know more about each other. This task was greatly accomplished. I also would like to add that I enjoyed everyone’s blog and how each blog helped me learn new aspects about my classmates that go beyond physically characteristics we see on a day to day basis. I liked learning how Shaloma stated she has a close knit family, and how Leann wish she could say the same about her family and being family oriented. I also liked the different genres of music in each one of the music play lists I tuned into. I was able to experience one-on-one time with the artist listed in each play list. This is essential in the sense that it’s always good to try to see someone else’s point of view on how they’re feeling during particular times in their lives. Overall, it was a great experience to learn new facts about my classmates and how in reality, we all can relate to each other in some shape, form, or fashion.

Who I Am

1 business photo(11) photo(16)

The reason I chose picture number one  is because I love to smile. I find humor in life in order to get through the hard times. I rather smile and laugh all day.  I feel sad for the people who can’t have fun and who can’t see the fun in life. I chose picture number two to show I am not just another girl from the hood. I have a professional side.  There is a time and place for everything. This picture was taken before my presentation for PWC, a large accounting firm. Although I love to laugh I am human and have emotions this is shown in the black and white picture of me. Some situations make me angry and I tend to wear my emotions on my sleeve.  I have lost a lot of loved ones so the 4th picture was to show I will never forget the people I love. I believe that just because someone is no longer physically there does not mean they do not still live in your heart.  Losing them has only made me appreciate my life much more.

Sheyenne’s Blog Post #2

Being in different classes with the same students all the time, you would think that you knew everything there was to  know about them. However, after reading everyone in block’s post, I found that I really didn’t know them very well and there is so much more to them than what meets the eye. Everyone surpassed what I expected of them, except for Kierra. That is only because I spend the most time with her though. We have a lot in common and I feel like her playlist emphasized our similarity. She is an avid R&B and hip-hop listener, as am I. However, I can appreciate the other musical tastes posted on the blog. Jacob’s playlist was especially intriguing to me. He shares a love for many different genres of music. I too have a very versatile musical taste. The Rolling Stones song “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” and ASAP Rocky’s “Goldie” are two songs that I am very fond of myself. When I look at Jacob he seems very chill and white-collared so I was surprised to find that his musical interests including rap. Shaloma’s slideshow also touched me and was very relateable, especially when she had the picture with her and her mother. Just like Shaloma experienced, my mother and I were also not as close when I was younger. But as I have matured and grew more accepting and understanding of her ways, I understand that she just has my best interest at heart. I’m sure this is the same for Shaloma’s mother. Reading the blog posts really gave me a better understanding on my classmates, and helped me realize there is more depth to everyone than what they show on the surface. I can appreciate how deep people were, and how willing they were to reveal themselves. Though they had limitations, they succeeded in revealing parts of their life that they would not normally reveal on a daily basis.

Blog Number 2 :)

After I read the post, most of which I enjoyed. I realized there is a common trend. Most of us use music to express ourself or as a form of escapism. Another thing that was great was that I found that my classmates and I have similar taste in music. I personally love music in its entirety,if it sounds good to me and I can relate to the lyrics I’ll listen, no matter the genre. The way that we interpret music goes deeper than the “face” value of the song. It was interesting and surprising to find out everyones different view of music. Larry I’m glad that you’ve found music. I’ve taken a liking to Kevin and his personality, now that he has shared somethings about himself through his post, I admire him more. Not everyday you see a young person that is dedicated and committed. Definitely not a sheep.Family is also very important to us, which is reflected in the photo galleries that I viewed and read about. These post show that we aren’t that different and for those that sometimes feel alone(as we ALL do) now we know we have classmates who we can relate to.

Blog #2

From reading my fellow classmates’ blogs I learned a lot about them. I learned how Anthony loves sports, Kevin is a free spirit, Chanelle is Dominican, Larry wasn’t a fan  of music until a few years ago, Kathryn is very family oriented, Tushar has only been in the U.S. for seven months, Jacob listens to music to escape from the realities of life, Shaloma is much closer to her mom now that she is older, and that Kierra listens to music to relax. Overall I noticed similarities between myself and my other classmates. Like Kathryn, I also have pets that are like members of my family. Growing up and even to this day I’ve always either had a dog or a cat. From a musical standpoint I observed that Kevin, Jacob, and I have similar tastes in music. While Shaloma and I share the fact that we are very close to our mothers. Tushar, Kathryn, and Shaloma all mentioned in their blogs how family oriented they are. I wish that I could say that I’m family oriented but I’m not. When I was younger my family was a lot closer but as the years have gone by we’ve drifted apart both figuratively and literally. The most surprising thing I found about everyone’s blogs was how open and honest everyone seemed to be. I didn’t expect people to be as revealing as they were, especially since we barely know each other. I really liked this exercise and getting to know more about the other classmates in my class. My hope is that in time we come to learn more about one another. ~Leean

Blog #2 Tushar

My first day a baruch was filled with anxiety and full of new faces. Being an outsider, i was not sure if i would be able to connect with fellow students but i am really glad to have such an excellent batch of classmates. They all are unique, very friendly and helping, and the first blog really opened up us all. I really got to know a lot of facts that i would have never imagined. I got to know that Shaloma is a family person and she loves rock climbing. I do concur with Jacob when he says that “For two to ten minutes I can expel all problems in my life and escape into a world of synchronized noise” while listening to music. Music helps me to fight frustration too like him.
Katheryn has a really sweet family and it was nice to know that she values it a lot. I learned about the straight-forward nature of Chanelle and i think she expressed herself really honestly. I respect her for being proud of her culture and her roots. I agree with the point that Kierra made regarding music and mood, and way it influences us. I enjoyed the playlist of Larry and Kevin. Both the playlists have excellent variety and i think they are awesome people.
It’s been a great experience for me and i feel lucky to be a part of this group.
