Who is important to me and why? (2nd Blog Assignment)
Who is important to me and why?
When I read this question, I suddenly thought of both my father and my mother. I couldn’t think of single person. Therefore, I will have two people in my response. My parents are the most important people to me. Well, this answer could be somehow a cliché, but for must of us, unless we are married, is the most reasonable response.
I am not saying that other than my parents I don’t care about other people in my life, but when I think of who is in the top of my life’s most-liked people, I see no one other than my parents. My parents are special; they go through any difficulty with no question to make my life easier, and they never look for return.
I moved here two years ago. More than any other thing, I missed my father because he had to stay for his job. He had to work to help me stay here. Moreover, he had to stay alone in order to let me have my mother with me during the first few months. Before that, my father had never been without my mother, but he decided that to save me from the homesickness that many people feel when they move to a new country. Marriage is two-way road, so my mother has gone through the same process. Having this thought in my mind makes me love them more and more every moment.
My country is not in a good situation right now. Iran has many political issues on the top of tons of other issues such as terrible air pollution, which this on its own can kill many young and aged people, and chaos all over the country because of the excruciating economy, which has made many people bankrupt. My father is aware of all these problems, but he still continues his job and stays there only to help me build and guarantee my future here although he could easily retire himself and join us here.
On the other hand, my mother has left her old mother and many friends she has in Iran just to make sure that I am having a good and healthy life here. She has come here, and she stays at home all day long cleaning the house and cooking different foods to keep me in a healthy environment so I can study and not get distracted by anything else.
I can’t just ignore all these sacrifices. Therefore my answer to this question is “My parents.” I love them more than anything or anyone in my life. I am sure that I can’t return even one thousandth of what they have done for me, but I will do whatever it takes to make them happy.

2 blog assignment.
LIFE IS AWESOME.
I’m not really into the new age idea; which often had me scoffing at the law of attraction. Instead, i just try and hold a simple belief that life is awesome. This is just a much easier version of the law of attraction. Plus, it’s still putting all of those positive vibes out there.
The key to this mindset is to find small things that makes you happy. when you stop focusing on what you don’t have in life and start focusing on experiences, then this is going to make your life richer and even more awesome.
One of my goals was to see art up, close and personal. For years, I was depressed and discouraged because International travel was just out of reach with my health problem and my budget. This kept me stuck in an area where fine art just seemed like something that was impossible to reach. Then a trip to Vegas, were i went to see the Wynn collection. it was what i wanted in a way that i could actually have. The biggest thing i learned about life that day is that sometimes you just have to live life and see it yourself.
I had always fancied myself as someone who really likes Van Gogh. i had books about him on my shelf and some posters in my room. However, until i knew him, i didn’t realize one really important thing: it doesn’t look that great close up. In fact, i had to stand back a few feet to even make it recognizable. Even with all of the books i read, no one had ever told me this simple thing about life. It was something that i had experience myself; and someday when i travel i suspect that there will be many more things just like that which I’ll simply have to see with my own eyes.
WHAT MAKES LIFE AWESOME FOR YOU?

Monologue blog instructions
For this assignment, you must:
1) post the monologue you’ve developed in your seminar AND
2) embed a self-portrait, which can be a photograph, an image, a cartoon, a drawing, or some other depiction of how you see yourself.
A monologue is a composition by an individual that has no set length, and it functions as a window into the individual’s personal look on life: it is a chance for a person to express their character and their voice. This means that there is an incredible amount of freedom when it comes to the content of the monologue.
You are encouraged to use the material in your free writes as a basis for what you’ll present.
You can try to upload the picture either directly by clicking “upload/insert,” or if the space reserved for the blog site is full, you can use any one of the image sites listed in blog #1 instructions. The picture can be a photograph, an image, a cartoon, a drawing, or some other depiction of how you see yourself. If you didn’t create the image, please also credit the author and if possible, link the source.
I look forward hearing your monologues on April 9th. good luck!

Monolgue… Why food?
It was my first day. I walk into the room with its large windows and the sun beating in. It was hot. The walls are plastered with white tiles, reflecting the sun. The back of the room has a draining system for the water with a floor that ever so slightly tilts down as I walk through. There are twenty five metal tables, twelve on each side with one in the front. At each table stands at least two people. Their uniforms awkwardly fit, uncomfortable with the thick fabric and the heat of the summer day. I take a look at myself and with my jacket buttoned to the very top, my black and white apron wrapped around me, and my hat tied securely on my head, I almost feel like I’m playing dress up. But then again I’m excited.
Suddenly, a harsh voice, easily identifiable as a French accent begins to speak. All of these French terms are being thrown at me. Shoot. I should have taken French in High School instead of Spanish! Not that I remember anything from Spanish anyways… She’s speaking faster and faster and everyone around me begins to move towards the washing sink in the back room. We wash our hands, once, twice, three times. The movement in the room feels almost like an army with perfect lines and precision. We stand in an order as she walks through the lines checking our uniforms. She even asks one man to take off his shoes so she can see the color of his socks. “Blue?” She asks him with a condescending tone. He looks down at his feet and we all can see the sweat come down his face. She rolls her eyes and continues her inspection. She stops. Oh no. She gets to the small girl with pretty long blonde hair who looks absolutely terrified. “Vud I vant your dirty hair in my croissant?!” Quickly, the girl tied her hair up and covered it with her hat. And she continues. She stops at me, I definitely stopped breathing for those few moments, and with a quick glance at my uniform, she continues on her way.
Again she speaks, by now I’ve gotten used to the accent. Her quick comments don’t make me jump as they did. Now, we begin. With a small smile I can see the passion she has for this work. We begin to speak about chocolate, all the different types of chocolate. My French may not be so great, but this stuff I know.
In third grade we had this project where we had to write to our favorite company asking them questions about their products. I chose Hershey’s Chocolate. I wanted to know why Hershey’s didn’t come out with a non dairy, but milk chocolate cake. In fact, why didn’t they sell Hershey’s chocolate cake and only chocolate bars? I thought it was a brilliant idea and Hershey’s would definitely take me up on it. After they received my letter, I was sure they would call me and beg for me to come be the owner of Hershey’s. And then of course I could eat all the chocolate I wanted.
After weeks of waiting for the response to my letter, it finally came. A small package in the mail addressed to me. I couldn’t wait to rip it open. Enclosed in the package was a letter from customer service explaining that a non dairy, but milk chocolate cake would be impossible. I was flabbergasted. How could they say impossible! Didn’t they realize how great my idea was! And then the letter continued explaining that they did not make cakes, but listed were a few “top secret” recipes which included Hershey’s chocolate. I quickly folded up the recipes and stuck them under my pillow making sure not to share these secrets I shared with Hershey’s.
Today, I have no recollection if I ever even tried out these “top secret” recipes that must be listed on google. I have no idea where they went after sticking them under my pillow, but I bet my mom had something to do with it after finding a paper with black ink next to my white pillow which could potentially stain the white and then the world could come to an end. So I bet they made their way to some trash can or a recycling bin somewhere.
Even though I was heartbroken after Hershey’s didn’t find me to be brilliant, I continued on with my love for chocolate. Unlike my dreams of a Willy Wonka world, chocolate doesn’t come from chocolate filled rivers. It is processed from the cacao bean which is cultivated in Africa and South America. There are many types of chocolate, ranging from dark, milk, to white, and more. The chocolate we know is made from grinding cacao beans to form cocoa solids and cocoa butter. Much of what we eat contains those two ingredients as well as another form of fat and sugar. Milk chocolate is a sweetened chocolate that contains as it says clearly in its name, milk. White chocolate, on the other hand is not really a chocolate. It only contains one ingredient out of the main two, cocoa butter. Cocoa butter, sugar, and milk form that decadent goodness.
The French lady continued to speak. On the table, she had a large stone slab, there she poured melted chocolate and with two frosting knives, she began to temper it. Tempering chocolate is the secret to professional looking products. It allows for smooth looking chocolate with a shiny and both satisfying finish. The chocolate on the table looked oh so good and the finished product looked way better than any Willy Wonka chocolate I had imagined.
If I could do anything, but be here, in school. I would be in the kitchen, making great food. Because food has this awesome ability which nothing else can compare. Food has the ability to connect people, make them happy. It brings out customs and cultural traditions. A familiar ingredient can bring someone racing back to their childhood without even saying a word… Just the sight, the smell, and of course the taste is what’s important. Bursts of flavor stimulate memories that can put a huge smile on one’s face, maybe even shed a tear. And that’s why I love it. Because food isn’t just something we eat to stay alive. It’s personal.

Who I think I am
Hello. As you all hopefully know, my name is Samuel but people usually call me Sam or Sammy. I was born in Ecuador and I moved to The U.S. in 2007. Since I’ve been moving constantly throughout my life, I’ve realized that I adjust pretty easily. The more I move, the more things I find out about myself. When I was a kid, I used to be obsessed with dancing. I used to watch movies, like “Step up”, and come up with my own dancing moves. I must admit I’m pretty good at it. Even when I was in high school, I was part of a few crews. And at some point, I performed at various shows outside and at school. Since many people complemented me and suggested I should pursue dancing, I made the decision to move to NYC and see if I could kick it off from here. When I moved to NYC from Chicago, I started taking college courses while I settled in this new city. Taking college courses, I realized I also had a passion for math. It was then when I realized that I wanted to pursue a career for Accounting or Finance. Now, I realized that I can make a career out of anything because I am good learner that is always trying to perfect his skills. In high school, I remember I wanted to play all the sports at my school. And I did. Although I didn’t know how to play most of the sports, like volleyball, football, swimming, water polo, baseball , I still achieved the different skills that I needed for those sports. I’m always up to learn something new. I keep changing the direction where I’m heading to because I see that I’m good at other things. For now, Accounting and Finance is what I’m pursuing. Maybe I will change it in the future but for now I’m satisfied with what I’m heading to. I like changes–It allows you to learn about other things you didn’t know.
Oh, and as of dancing, I plan to start practicing this summer. I made a few connections this past fall. I will see where that takes me
