Career Planning
I plan to graduate from Baruch College with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree. I currently major in business management with a concentration in entrepreneurship. I plan to start my own business and become a self-made multi-billionaire philanthropist. I have learned a great deal about myself through the self- assessments which I took the FOCUS 2 website. I learned that I like to focus on the people around me and have harmonious interactions with them. I learned that I am sociable and when I work with others I motivate them to participate. I learned that I am a leader, I recognize and appreciate the talents in other people and I do my best to help them reach their full potential. The self-assessments only fortified my choice of major and career goals, making me excited for the bright future ahead of me. The results didn’t reflect any change from what I had planned for myself. I always loved business and being a leader and the results only showed me that the business world is exactly where I need to be. My participation in FOCUS 2 helped me clarify my future direction for myself by showing me that I am on the right track for the career I always saw myself fulfilling.

Career Planner
I have always been a energetic and social person to talk to. That is what made being a waiter for the past three years so easy for me. I have also always enjoyed math, money, and numbers. By doing the focus 2 assignment I have learned that I need to pursue a career that has a constant level of communication and interaction with others however this job also must possess numbers, assessments, and analyzing of money or involve math in some way. I have done plenty of these “career” assignments already, especially in high school, so my results were not surprising to me. I have always been told to stick with numbers because that is what I am good at. Hopefully I do and it all pays off in the end.

A Dream, Dashed
Today, I found out I won’t be achieving my dream.
I failed my math exam. I’d be surprised if I scored any points at all. I haven’t checked my score, but I received the “you’re a dummy” paper, saying that maybe, just maybe, it would be in my best interest to drop the class. Better luck next time, champ. With the failure, my chances of getting an A in the course are pretty much gone. And with the end of my A in math goes the end of my hopes for straight As, and a transfer to Columbia University sometime next year.
My dream was to transfer to Columbia after achieving a 4.0 GPA in my first year at Baruch and acing the SATs. Of course, I’d need even more than just straight As, as transferring to that particular Ivy League school is even more difficult than being directly admitted there, but that was the bare minimum I’d need to be considered. Now, I’ve got no shot.
I’m not an idiot; I don’t even dislike math. I just seem to put every single other thing possible before doing my schoolwork and other necessary things. I watch anime and Family Guy on YouTube, I play games on my PC, and I have a Facebook addiction that’s out of this world. If I would have spent half the time on math that I’d spent doing other things this weekend, I would have scored 200% on that test.
Honestly, it’s not even worth it; my internet addiction, I mean. None of the stuff I do here brings me any closer to my goals. I have 2 Facebook accounts with about 150 “friends” between them that I barely know, and who barely bother to reply to the things I post most times. What’s the point? I keep asking myself that question, but I never get an answer.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking down on Baruch by coveting a Columbia degree. Honestly, I didn’t even think I would have been accepted at Baruch until the day I recieved that letter in the mail. To be honest, I even think the education I’d recieve at Baruch would be comparable (hey, math is math, regardless where you learn it), but the prestige… the prestige of an Ivy League school is what I need. I have a lot of potential that I’ve neglected for a long time, and I’m ready to see how far it will take me. A prestigious degree will help me along the way immeasurably.
So, I have to make a change. I’m not going to get anywhere doing the things I’ve been doing. I’m going to quit the bullshit, cold turkey, right now. No more Facebook, no more anime and video game binges, no more. It’s time to focus.

Self Assessment and Career Planning
Unlike many people, making quick and smart decisions was always easy to me. Yes, before making a decision, I stop and think about the consequence of the choice I’m going to make but once I made that choice, I always stick to it. However, choosing a college and a major is a quite difficult task and even more so for a starting freshman.
I never thought I would come to Baruch. Studying Business was never my aim. I wanted to study medicine but unavoidable situations brought me to Baruch and now that I’m here, I like it. But liking the college is one thing and finding a major that I actually like is quite a different matter. But after spending a few months in here, I now know that I have to study business. Not because of any pressure or anything but some arcane instinct within me is telling me to get a business degree. For once in my life I’m going to study something that I want.
The assessments in the Focus 2 program told me that I have a high level of self consciousness; I know what I want to do with my life. I want to Major in Business Management and I’m confidant I’ll be good with it.

1. I’ve learned nothing new about myself and I’ve made no new decisions on majors or career goals through these surveys.
2. There has been no change in my direction or expectations because I have no expectations or any plan of action.
3. Focus 2 does have good information but I still have no idea where I’m headed.

Health and Wellness
The Health and Wellness Enrichment workshop was very informative. I have already been to many of the meditation sessions Megan gives, but I have never known that many factors can influence stress as we go along college. I personally have struggled with anxiety my whole life and being able to accept that had helped me a lot. I did not know you could do little relaxation exercises while you are in the class or in the bus. Knowing the different factors of stress and what it can lead to is making me think about my methods of study and also how much I give to my college experience. Just breathing and relaxing can liberate you from the inevitable pressure of the homework and midterms, so yes, it was very helpful.
