Leadership Extra Late
Ashley Ward has been waiting for an opportunity to voice her opinion for some time now. When a good friend of Ashley came and told her about Occupy Wall Street she rejoiced, “I’ve been waiting for something to happen for years,” she said. “I was personally starting to get afraid that something like this wouldn’t happen in my lifetime.”
Ashley then used her great networking skills to set up her own Occupy Wall Street, with tents which created the first Occupy Wall Street college protest
In High school many kids wanted to experiment sexually like more then ever in a generation I believe. I would hear my friends discuss how they would be with a girl/boy and would be unprotected, which i felt was absolutely ridiculous. I felt as a friend I needed to inform them on making smarter decisions for their health and also help them become aware of the outcome of that risky situation. I spoke to counselors about maybe having a safe sex advocate come and explain about sexual experiences, informing us on the risks, the positives, precautions, and how-to’s. I felt like I needed to be a leader, and influence everyone to be mindful at this age (we have so many years to go.) I know people who died of AIDS and though we had Health class later in high school, we all weren’t to knowledgeable in the beginning; so the earlier the better. Being a leader had some downfalls but every one knew that it made sense for my concern. Some thought I was being too “old” in the sense of being too mature and not having fun. Of course we all want to have fun, but not at a risky cost. Safe sex is what I preached if any sex and I made sure I devoted myself to that concept. Monogamy had to come in play, but what teen would really wanna be monogamous at that age? It is unlikely. When I have a concept I am into I follow it and I expect those close to me to stand by me, you don’t have to agree with it fully but have an understanding on my view. No one really opposed the idea of being unsafe after learning about transmission of infections and diseases and how quick it can happen. It was important to get that message out there because we have the fast guys and girls, who takes action without thinking first.
I possess self-confidence and a positive attitude and outlook, I believe those are two crucial leadership skills needed. I need to work on my emotional intelligence recognizing feelings such as my own and those of others. In my college career I want to work on being a better role model for myself especially. I plan on transforming my tardiness to punctuality, learning how to balance my sleep schedules, study sessions, and playtime. To be successful in my career, regardless of my title or position, I know I have to focus on developing my leadership skills. Effective leaders can add value simply by being present on teams. They are inspirational and motivating. They know the right things to say to people to help them understand what’s needed, and they can convince people to support a cause.

My first semester in Baruch college has felt like an enlightenment. I love the environment of the school, one because of its location being in the middle of the city. Two the professors i have aren’t really that bad, they all seem like they care for their students and want there students to pass and that’s really encouraging. And finally the students that attend the school seem like no other because of the intense diversity that your exposed to. I’ve met some really interesting people that i would have never come across if i wasn’t attending Baruch.
Baruch is an awesome school and i hope that my 2nd Semester will be even better

Post One (late) 10 Song playlist
Cant stop me now – Afrojack & Shermanology
Tell Me Say – Vybz Kartel (V6 Riddim)
The Only One (Raw) – Aidonia
Possessed – Machel Montano & Kerwin DuBois
Fog – Machel Montano
Racked Up Shawty – Meek Mill, Fabulous, French Montana
Suit & Tie – Justin Timberlake & Jay-Z
Open Letter – Jay-z
Settle Down – Mavado
Light Up – Larry Smoove ( All- In)
I picked these 10 songs because these are some of the songs on my itunes top 25 list. In general these songs represent who i am because whenever your at a party or even a small gathering these are songs that make it “tun up”. Music has helped me get through a lot, it could be as simple as something that you have alike with someone too or allowing you to have euphoria no matter the situation. And if anybody wants to listen to them i highly recommend it.

Monologue
To begin my name is Gary Fox-Nelson, i am a junior named after my father with my mothers maiden name. I like to be active whether it be playing pick up games of basketball football or soccer, or working out. Being fashionable is very important to me also because not only is it an outlet to express who i am as a person, it also gives a good impression. But i wasn’t like who i am today. Before I came to Baruch i had a whole heap of different issues that i had to tackle.
Going into high school i was a short little nerd with glasses. I had a olive green and black jacket with a matching book bag so for some time my nickname was turtle. I was never very social, and i always wanted to be apart of the “cool” people when i was younger, and eventually that started messing with my grades cause then i started cutting class and then school all together. I skipped school for a year and a half before I was forced to transfer to a smaller school. At the time i always felt i was gonna graduate high school, but i never wanted to do the work and i felt cool hanging out with my friends at the time no matter what anybody said. But eventually i grew tired of the same cutting school scenery and decided to go back to school and go on with my life. From 2010 until the summer of 2012 I worked as hard as i could to finish high school and when i finished i felt as if i accomplished a great feat, but i still had the urge to go on.
Which brings me to why I am at Baruch now and why many students attend Baruch college. I always wanted to further my education to become a success human being in this society, and present a easier life for my future children.
In my ideal future i would hope to be a super – intern and succeed with a great company or maybe even my own company or brand. I’m honestly not focusing on it 24-7 but at the same time i have been constantly wondering what to do and how to get there, and this Freshman Orientation class is helping out a lot in creating a path for me to get there. I might get a challenge by getting myself up in the morning, getting myself to do my assignments before due dates and stuff like that but if i could get myself into some good habits i believe that nobody can stop me.
Well this is me currently, enjoying my college life with my new friends and experiences. And i really love my favorite class of my freshman year, Freshman Orientation and after i’ve been in another freshman orientation class i believe that my Freshman Orientation class is the best because of our great teachers Jenny and Joanna. , thank you, you guys are F****in awesome
