Blog #2 Katheryn E.

I really liked reading the blogs my classmates wrote. I learned new things and found similarities between my classmates and I. I learned something interesting about Kevin. In his blog he wrote about being in a long distance relationship for more than 3 years. I found this to be amazing since many relationships don’t last that long. Another blog that I really liked was Tushar’s. I learned that he has only been in the U.S. for approximately 7 months and that he likes technology. I also learned that he travels a lot which i found very cool. Another blog that i loved was Shaloma’s. I like how she wrote from her relationship to her family to who she really is. I learned that she loves poetry. I admire her for that because i have tried and i’m not good at it. I hope i get to listen or read her poetry one day. I really liked her last picture because she said it gives her self-esteem a boost. I can relate to her in that since I have a few pictures of me that i absolutely love.
While reading the blogs i found similarities between my classmates and i. For example, Chanelle is Dominican just like me! I like that she chose a merengue as one of her songs because it represents our culture. She also mentioned that she loves being in love and that they are some songs like “You Don’t Know my Name” that describe her love life or how she feels during a relationship. Just like her they are tons of songs that i listen too when I’m feeling a certain way. Another blog in which i found similarities was in Larry’s. I love “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”! During middle school i had my clique of friends so it was definitely hard for everyone to go their different paths. Even in high school it was hard since you get used to seeing your friends everyday to seeing them once or twice a year.

I believe learning more about the people around you is a good thing for oneself. From learning about them, one can also discover something new about themselves. For myself, I found myself  a bit envious of Shaloma and Katheryn. Both of them had pictures that demonstrated how close they were to their immediate family, which I liked a lot. I found it amazing that Katheryn made a video for her parent’s anniversary. I don’t even know the date my parent’s got married. I would say I’m pretty distant from my mother. Now not to say I’m disrespectful to her or anything because I do respect her and love her but I know next to nothing about her. Family pictures as well stopped cold turkey once I was in middle school. It’s funny because I had plenty of pictures when I was a baby until 5th grade then none afterwards. So I always like to see people that are happy for their parents and are close to them.

Most surprising thing in any of the blogs was in Larry’s blog. His first line made me laugh because he sounded like an old man hating on the music of the new age. Then he broke to Vitamin C’s song, which means, I’m just assuming from the context of the song, you either started appreciating music after middle school or after high school. But I’m glad you were able to get out from under the rock you were living in though. I’m just kidding. Music is a beautiful thing Larry. .

blog #2 on Kierra

I don’t know most of the students in the class nor have I even spoken to them, mostly because I am a very shy person. So anyone I blog about I will learn new things about and be very intrigued into what they have posted and how they have described themselves.

Kierra’s blog interested me the most. Her explanation of how the style of music influences the type of person you are is true. If you listen to hard rock all the time compared to country music, you would be some what more energetic than melo and calm. Music helps compare your situation to the artist lyrics’ because they might have went through the same experience and can better explain it through their lyrics.

I found that Kierra’s playlist of music has the same type of music I have in my playlist. The song “Ball” by T.I., is a song I use in my playlist and Kierra has it in hers as well. She also has other songs that I listen to on a daily basis like “Ima Boss”, “Make Me Proud”, “Amen”, “M.I.A.”, “Flatline” and “Should Be You”. These songs that she has in her playlist, I enjoy very well.

She said in her blog, “However, as I got older, I realized listening to music isn’t so bad after all”. I also thought the same thing a couple of years ago till I started to actually listen and think about the lyrics the music was saying to me. I got interested in the lyrics that I was listening too. When Im happy, I enjoy the beat but when I am sad or down, I understand and decipher the music which I find interesting. I enjoyed Kierra’s blog and playlist and Im glad I got to know her better as well.

Blog #2 on Chanelle

Interestingly enough I didn’t know that she was very shy and thought her a bit more outgoing than she gives herself credit for. Also it’s cool that I’m not the only person who loves being in the prospect of being in love. Those giddy feelings and the rush of adrenaline as your heart pumps is almost the same as you get from running. I really liked her second song, “We Are Champions” by Queen since it’s so baroque style and speaks to me as if any Mozart, Bach, or Vivaldi piece. To me, it reminds me of an era where chivalry was still in existence, and the pump of the song comes from being praised and the like. And as I’m writing my blog I will totally put “We Are Champions” on repeat since it pumps me up and makes me feel at peace as well as allowing me to concentrate. Music like this really stimulates me and I can meditate to. I totally agree on the “I AM A NEW YORKER” saying, because what more can we be proud of, being born and raised in NY, the other states can’t even compare. Also very true with her song, “I Get Lonely Too” by Drake as many people, regardless of old and young, can get lonely too and want company. But I would really love to see the Diva in Chanelle, the diva side of you seems a very fun and interesting person. Also very cool that your very close with your mom, and I truly didn’t know you were Dominican, but that’s so cool!

Who is Vidhi?

Hmm…
It’s impossible to sum up who I am within 500 words. However, these pictures come somewhat close to it.

A first picture is of me. I’m not self conscious but I felt insecure throughout a large chunk of high school. It was the first time I performed on stage at my old high school at a fashion show. It felt like an accomplishment because I overcame my fear.

The second picture is of dancing because I love to dance. It gives me a way to express myself and show what I’m best at. When I perform or merely, just dance for fun, the joy I feel is ridiculous. It can easily change my entire day.

The third picture is a picture of me and my sister. She has always been a mother figure to me from my childhood. We fight and I obviously think she is the most obnoxious person ever. But I love her for always being there for me and taking care of me.

The fourth picture is Mumbai, India. I was born here and it’s been close to my heart. I was only seven years old when I moved to New York, so I barely remember much. But half of my family lives there and I miss them a lot. I haven’t been back ever since but I can’t wait to go back because its a very special place to me.

The fifth picture is a chart about finance. I used to want to study law but I’m glad I went with finance because I love working with statistics and analyzing them and I love math in general. (Not trying to sound like a nerd)

The sixth picture is my favorite show, The Big Bang Theory. I think it is such a funny show and I die of laughter during every episode. The fact that I can actually understand what Sheldon says amazes me and makes me feel so smart :D

The seventh picture is a picture of some of my closest friends after a performance at my old high school. It was the one the most memorable times of my life because it brought us closer and we the practices consisted of less dancing and more craziness. I learned how to belly dance thanks to my friend and this experience opened me up even more.

The eighth picture is my favorite sport cricket. Growing up around Indians I never knew how to play the game or even understand it as a matter of fact. During the last World Cup final I gathered some interest because I finally understood how to play it. I actually ended up watching it and spending some time bonding with my dad.

The ninth picture is defines my friends. I miss not being able to see them everyday because most of them are still in high school. But when we do meet up, we act stupid around each other.

The last picture is about music because it’s close to my heart and I have some other way of expressing myself. It can calm me down or bring out unhappy experiences.

I think I may have accomplished summarizing myself :D

Music Playlist

I found that this assignment proved a great difficulty for me. What I’ve learned recently, and most importantly, is that i am lost. I joke often enough that i’m going through a pre- quarter life crisis and jokes aside, it seems i am. I lost my way on a lot of things, and i feel like i’m such a different person, and everyday i’m learning something new about myself. So for the songs by carolina liar, Brett dennan, and coldplay, it attacks these new feelings and how im tackling my life right now.

Also on the mix are a couple of songs that remind me of my best friend. She’s a constant in my life. I am always in constant communication with her, whether on the phone, online, mail, etc. She’s in Chicago  but were possible closer now than weve ever been. We’re so cheesy, we compare ourselves to meredith and cristina on grey’s anatomy. So “Home” and “all I Want” are songs that correlate to her.

I put in primadonna for good measure. Because i’m a bit of a primadonna. I’m a little difficult. and lazy.

Also, i have a very eclectic taste in music. I appreciate music in general. I will listen to most genres, and find a connection to it, and this mix demonstrates that as well. Also you can apply that to my personality.  I’m a Gemini,  we’re complicated. We cant pick anything, we’re all about having it all.

Bik Yuk Huang blog post 1

http://grooveshark.com/playlist/Bik+Yuk/83271399

Hmm… this playlist is pretty much a surface view of whom i am. It shows my aspirations of what I hope to become like Aretha’s Respect. I do hope that I can fix or improve upon some of my flaws. I want to be able to have confidence to speak clearly and concise. This reminds me that I seem to lack a sense of personality besides calming or soothing or unusual. I learned that I have some work to do on myself. But I am someone who is empathetic and will definitely lend an ear if you need it.
