The most important people in my life (2nd blog)

The most important person in my life is my girl friend. Although I know most people would dedicate this title to their mom or dad, but my girl fried is the one in my life that influences me the most. I met her three years ago, from then on; she keeps company with me, giving me courage to overcome difficulties in my life and sharing my happiness.

She is a warm and genuine girl; she let me know what love is, and what the most precious thing is. From her, I know that I should treat everyone sincerely, and take care of my friends as much as I can. By doing this I go well with many people, and receive the valuable friendship.

Beside this, I get courage from her. Because no matter comes across with what kind of difficulties, we support and inspire each other; we grow up and be braver together.

She is a girl that has an extremely good sense of humor; she makes jokes all the day which brighten my days.

She loves challenges. She pushed forward my life to experience new things. Even though sometime change is tough, as I experienced with her, change is also brilliant.

She is smart and always eager to learn, she has a master degree in education, sometime, yes, I just like one of her student. I really learn al lot from her.

She love music, dance, movie every thing about art. She took me to countless theaters, galleries, museums, gardens. She also likes travelling, fashion and delicious food too. We went to many gorgeous restaurants and cool nightclubs too. She works hard and plays hard. She knows very well how to enjoy her life, and our life. She makes our life fabulous.

Over all, I will keep going in my way, try my best to strive to my dream. I am not scared, because I am not alone. I’m so grateful to have such a perfect girl always with me.

Who is important to me and why? (2nd Blog Assignment)

Who is important to me and why?

When I read this question, I suddenly thought of both my father and my mother. I couldn’t think of single person. Therefore, I will have two people in my response. My parents are the most important people to me. Well, this answer could be somehow a cliché, but for must of us, unless we are married, is the most reasonable response.

I am not saying that other than my parents I don’t care about other people in my life, but when I think of who is in the top of my life’s most-liked people, I see no one other than my parents. My parents are special; they go through any difficulty with no question to make my life easier, and they never look for return.

I moved here two years ago. More than any other thing, I missed my father because he had to stay for his job. He had to work to help me stay here. Moreover, he had to stay alone in order to let me have my mother with me during the first few months. Before that, my father had never been without my mother, but he decided that to save me from the homesickness that many people feel when they move to a new country. Marriage is two-way road, so my mother has gone through the same process. Having this thought in my mind makes me love them more and more every moment.

My country is not in a good situation right now. Iran has many political issues on the top of tons of other issues such as terrible air pollution, which this on its own can kill many young and aged people, and chaos all over the country because of the excruciating economy, which has made many people bankrupt. My father is aware of all these problems, but he still continues his job and stays there only to help me build and guarantee my future here although he could easily retire himself and join us here.

On the other hand, my mother has left her old mother and many friends she has in Iran just to make sure that I am having a good and healthy life here. She has come here, and she stays at home all day long cleaning the house and cooking different foods to keep me in a healthy environment so I can study and not get distracted by anything else.

I can’t just ignore all these sacrifices.  Therefore my answer to this question is “My parents.” I love them more than anything or anyone in my life. I am sure that I can’t return even one thousandth of what they have done for me, but I will do whatever it takes to make them happy.

LIFE IS AWESOME.

I’m not really into the new age idea; which often had me scoffing at the law of attraction. Instead, i just try and hold a simple belief that life is awesome. This is just a much easier version of the law of attraction. Plus, it’s still putting all of those positive vibes out there.

The key to this mindset is to find small things that makes you happy. when you stop focusing on what you don’t have in life and start focusing on experiences, then this is going to make your life richer and even more awesome.

One of my goals was to see art up, close and personal. For years, I was depressed and discouraged because International travel was just out of reach with my health problem and my budget. This kept me stuck in an area where fine art just seemed like something that was impossible to reach. Then a trip to Vegas, were i went to see the Wynn collection. it was what i wanted in a way that i could actually have. The biggest thing i learned about life that day is that sometimes you just have to live life and see it yourself.

I had always fancied myself as someone who really likes Van Gogh. i had books about him on my shelf and some posters in my room. However, until i knew him, i didn’t realize one really important thing: it doesn’t look that great close up. In fact, i had to stand back a few feet to even make it recognizable. Even with all of the books i read, no one had ever told me this simple thing about life. It was something that i had experience myself; and someday when i travel i suspect that there will be many more things just like that which I’ll simply have to see with my own eyes.

WHAT MAKES LIFE AWESOME FOR YOU?

Who I think I am

Hello. As you all hopefully know, my name is Samuel but people usually call me Sam or Sammy. I was born in Ecuador and I moved to The U.S. in 2007. Since I’ve been moving constantly throughout my life, I’ve realized that I adjust pretty easily. The more I move, the more things I find out about myself. When I was a kid, I used to be obsessed with dancing. I used to watch movies, like “Step up”, and come up with my own dancing moves. I must admit I’m pretty good at it. Even when I was in high school, I was part of a few crews. And at some point, I performed at various shows outside and at school. Since many people complemented me and suggested I should pursue dancing, I made the decision to move to NYC and see if I could kick it off from here. When I moved to NYC from Chicago, I started taking college courses while I settled in this new city. Taking college courses, I realized I also had a passion for math. It was then when I realized that I wanted to pursue a career for Accounting or Finance. Now, I realized that I can make a career out of anything because I am good learner that is always trying to perfect his skills. In high school, I remember I wanted to play all the sports at my school. And I did. Although I didn’t know how to play most of the sports, like volleyball, football, swimming, water polo, baseball , I still achieved the different skills that I needed for those sports. I’m always up to learn something new. I keep changing the direction where I’m heading to because I see that I’m good at other things. For now, Accounting and Finance is what I’m pursuing. Maybe I will change it in the future but for now I’m satisfied with what I’m heading to. I like changes–It allows you to learn about other things you didn’t know.

Oh, and as of dancing, I plan to start practicing this summer. I made a few connections this past fall. I will see where that takes me 🙂

Who I think I am (Anita)

Hi, everyone, I am Anita. I was born in and grew up in China. I came to New York City in May 2012. New York City is a really amazing place. “There is always something happening here. If you get bored, it is really your own fault.” And it is true. I am deeply affected by NYC’s diverse cultures. I like going to various museums here.  I went to the Metropolitan Museum last year. And I really desire to visit the Museum of Modern Art because I know there is the painting The Scream by  Edvard Munch being exhibited until April. I hope I have the chance to see it. Before I get to New York, I was living in a small town in China. I had a plenty friends whom were as silly as I was. They were cute and sweet. Later, many of us went to colleges in different cities and went abroad. We separate from other now but I believe one day we will reunite. OK, here comes my hobbies.  I like slow running. I used to run 4 miles every Saturday in China. Because I find it very helpful to relax myself from pressures. When I am running, I don’t have to care about how the world is going, if I have finished my homework or how I did in the last exam. I only focus on the path I am running on. I only need to get my shirt wet and insist to the finish line. There might not be fans waiting for me on the finishing line and there might not be flowers and medals for me if I finish it. But it is that kind of self-satisfaction brings me to the pure world where I can live without upset and worry. Besides, sometimes after I get really tired from the running, I can have a nice sleep that night. I feel replenished and reborn the next morning. However, after I came to New York City, I barely run. It is so hard to find a place to run in this busy city. Everyone is so busy everyday that it’s like New Yorkers are already running every day. You can see people running everywhere actually, running for a 6 train to work, running for a 9:30 am class, running across the road…… On the other hand, I really don’t have time to run now. Taking five classes, tons of homework assignments are waiting for me. Anyway, I am still enjoying my new life here, as a college student in Baruch, ( despite the limit of uploading a picture to this blog is too small which drives me crazy.)

Who I think I am ( Szepei Cheung)

I-LOVE-NY

I am always who I am and I never try to be anybody else. So let me introduce myself here to you . Me name is szepei cheung and is pronounced “c-pei”. I am from china and I came to America when I was 11, first I landed at Atlanta, Georgia then I decided to move to New York half a year ago. I go to baruch college in manhattan planning to major in finance.  New York  was definitely a different experience for me. New York is not a just a state to me, it is a new world to me compared to Georgia. The crowd-ness , the diversity, and uniqueness among every New Yorker excites me. There are definitely a lot to learn in the big new world. Despite the new excitement in the big city, I really missed my mom and her cookings. It is very comforting to have someone to prepare your foods everytime. And I am very thankful for that. I clearly remenber her giving me little lessons before I came to New york. She specifically told me to think through and make the right decision because now I am alone in NY and no one will be there to look after me. Coming to New York was not an easy thing. I have to work to support my own life because I want my mom to believe that I can be indepedent without her. To be honest, I was very scared at first.  I was scared that I will take the subway and eventually ended up at an unknown location. I was so afraid to bump into strangers in sidewalk and they will get mad and beat me up. I was scared to not have any friends. But now , I am not scared anymore, I know exactly how the subway system works, I have friends that will be there for me whenever I need them and I will do the same thing to them too. Coming to New York definistly shaped who I truly am because I make my own decisions. In Georgia I was just a baby that listen to whatever my mom tells me to do .

Weilin Guan’s Playlist

1. To China With Love

This is a song from an alternative rock band from Borlänge, Sweden. They recent albums have experimentally blend in Chinese element into their music, this song I posted is the most representative one of their newest music style.

2.Know Who You Are at Every Age

Cocteau Twins were a Scottish alternative rock band active from 1979 to 1997, known for innovative instrumentation and atmospheric, non-lyrical vocals. From the way I think of them, I‘m not just attracted to the magnificent voice of the vocal, also the deep thoughtful meanings and the interesting ideas, they brought it to the melody are also fascinated me.

3.You Know I’m No Good

The most talented soul singer died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011,I was kind of shocked when I first heard it. Recommending her most popular and representative song to memorize her.

4.What Katie Did

The song was written when the lead vocal of “The Libertines”, Peter Doherty was in a relationship with world-known super model Kate Moss. It’s a breezy sonorous song, and easy to sing along with. There’s also video clip of Peter and Kate singing this song together at some music festivals on Youtube.

5.Long Time

From a funk band called “Cake”, Cake epitomized the postmodern, irony-drenched aesthetic of ‘90s geek rock. I heard this song in a episode of “Shameless”. Great TV show, great song.

6.Love will tear us apart

My favorite song.

7.A Perfect Indian

The first time I heard it was another singer’s cover version, and I went to google this singer right away. The individuality of her is that she is bareheaded.(yet still beautiful)

8.Friday I’m in Love

Who doesn’t like Friday.

9. Temptation

This song is Moby’s cover version. It was originally from famous punk band “New Order”. Don’t judge me, but I think I like this version better.

10.Distraction

From “Zero 7”. The vocal of this band, Sia Furler recently became more and more popular, due to she was in “The voice” as Christina Aguilera’s  co-coach. Great  singer.

I’m having the hardest time to choose 10 out of over 2000 songs in my Ipod. I wanted to choose one song out of each singer that I like, but it was still a lot, so I only wrote the description about the first 10…

Who I think I am (Qingyuan Shi)

Hi, everyone! My name is Qingyuan Shi. My English name is Dale. I was born on June, 1992 in China. I graduated from my high school in 2010. People usually think that studying math is very hard and boring, however during the period of my high school, my favorite subject was math, and I liked it because I met a very nice math teacher. He is a humor man, he used to say something very funny during the class, and he used his way making math easy to understand. Before I came to United State, he encouraged me to learn English hard and show him an American girlfriend after four years.

I have a big family, and I can not remember how many people in my family. I have two elder sisters; lots of cousins; nephews; uncles and ants… actually, I have no idea either why people have so many family members in China. Both of my parents are businessmen and they work together which is resource producing company. I am the youngest one from my parents.

In my spare time, I like to read novels. I think reading could enlarge my knowledge. As for novels, I could imagine whatever I like such as a well-known scientist or a kung-fu master. In addition to reading, I also like to play PC games. There are a lot of grownups think that playing PC games hinders students from learning. But I think PC games could motivate me to learn something such as English or Japanese. My favorite course is English because I think it is interesting to say one thing via different sounds. I wish my English could be improved in the next four years and I could be able to speak fluent English in the future.

I have prepared a list of songs that  i think inspirational for me.i listen to them most of the time when i’m low. These songs do not necessarily define who i’m but they are the good pick up when i’m feeling sad. i know its boring to listen to such songs but we all need motivation at sometimes.I do not exactly listen to these songs all the time but only when i think about things in my past and the mistakes i have made. i hope you guys do not judge me as a ‘Loner’ but as a guy who occasionally needs inspiration and motivation to move on in life.
