Hello..my name is Shaila Ansari. I am from Rajasthan, the largest state in India, which is known for its history and kings. There is amazing culture diversity throughout the country. As a result, we have many festivals and many holidays!! šŸ˜€ I like all the festivals but my favorite is the festival of colors.

The most amazing moments of my life are of my boarding school. I learned a lot of different things in school like horse-riding, craft, squash, soccer, etc. I am an Indian folk dancer and I know mostly all states dances. I am also good at academics especially math. Boarding school taught me how to be independent, how to survive without your family and how to find happiness in small things. But i hated getting up in the morning for cro
ss country practice and the restriction on mobile phones and laptops. We used to get 7 minutes every week to speak to our parents. My school is considered the best boarding school in India and the students are from different states which gave me a chance to meet people from different background. Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Ā Ā  426956_10152414528855553_428249918_nhome_img1
I dropped a semester because I went to India to attend my brother’s wedding. Weddings in India consist of many different events and we wear bright colors on the functions. We have a separate event for dance and music. Sometimes, I miss my country and my parents so much that I feel like leaving everything but I am so glad that I got through Baruch. I have to do a lot for my parents and to achieve my goal, I have to work hard.

I like Baruch because I get to meet people from different walks of life and I love making new friends. Baruch is totally different from colleges in my country as its not compulsory to attend classes. šŸ˜‰ I am looking forward to many new experiences and challenges.

Who I Think I Am (Vivian Hung)

Who I Think I am

Hi everyone!

I’m Vivian Hung. I’m from a South America country called Venezuela. And I’m a descendant of Chinese people. As you can guess, I can speak bothĀ Spanish and Chinese.

imageschinaĀ

Ā  Ā  Ā FirstĀ of all, regardingĀ to theĀ topic ā€œWho I think I amā€, in a simple way I will say I’m ME. I think we are all unique and special.Ā But I will tell you more about who I think I am.

I think I’m a outgoingĀ person. I have a multicultural background. I grow up in Venezuela and I have been to China to study the Chinese language. (IĀ couldn’tĀ speak Chinese before.) I have meet people from different parts of the world and have experienced two different cultures. I’m someone who likes to meet new people, make friends and try and get to know new things. I’m curious about things I don’t know; I like learning. I’m active and always open to new experiences.

I also think I’m caring. I care a lot about people I love, such as my family and friends. I think they are really everything to me because itĀ doesn’tĀ matter what I had gone trough, I am going trough or I will go through, they are the ones who are really always there for me, no matter what. Parents, as we know they will do their best for us. And friends let me give you an example of mine. When I was in China and my parents needed to go back to Venezuela. It was really difficult for me to adapt and being far from my family, but then I realized that my friends have became almost like my family in that long period of time. They shared with me and cared about me. It was so warm and happy to have them. So I really treasure everything relating to my family and friends, such as the relationship, the time I have to share with them, their feelings and so on. There is a quote that I really like from the movie ā€œThe Last Songā€ written by Nicholas Sparks which is ā€œ Sometimes you have toĀ be apart from people you love, but thatĀ doesn’tĀ mean you love them any less. Sometimes, it even makes you love them more.ā€ I have experienced that feeling so I treasure a lot people I love.

I’m someone who have learned to be resilient. Life is not that difficult but also not that easy. We face obstacles and we sometimes feel helpless and hopeless. But I really found out that we need to take a good attitude, be optimist and keep going whenever we feel in that way. Do our best. We tend to see the obstacle which is in front of us much bigger than it is. But after we defeated it, we realized itĀ wasn’tĀ as terrifying as we used to think of or see it.

And for the last, I will tell you things that I like and like doing. I love outside activities. I like playing badminton, volleyball and basketball. I love the beach, it is the place that I love the most going to. In fact, IĀ go with my friends to the beach every time we can.

I’m happy to be in Baruch, this will be another newĀ experience for me. I think I’m someone who enjoys her life with what it brings.

First Blog Assignment: Who I Think I AM

imageimageimagelovemathimageimageimageimage

Hi everyone,

My name is Sam Sadr Azodi. I am 18 years old. I am from Tehran, the capital of Iran. There are few things that I would like you to know about me:

First of all, IĀ love my parents more than any other thing in the world. I do whatever it takes t make them happy. They are the best support for me. Moving to the United States for Iranian people is really hard, not only because it’s really hard to get green card or visa, but also because the currency we have is so cheap compared to U.S Dollar, so it’s really expensive to live in such country, specially in Manhattan, but my parents have accepted it and tried to make a life for me here. I really appreciate the chance they have given me.

Second of all,Ā I am a person of math, which means I like math more than any other subject I have studied in my life. I like it because it’s certain; there is no hesitation in it when you want to solve a problem by a formula.

Third of all,I am very happy and proud about being in Baruch. Getting accepted into Baruch was a dream-come- true for me. I promised myself and my family to use this chance in the best way possible.

Fourth of all, you might want to know what my favorite sport is; I love swimming. I used to be a good swimmer back in my country, but since I couldn’t find a clean swimming pool in New York, I stopped swimming for two years and lost my strength. Now that I am in Baruch, I usually swim two-three times a week.

The other thing that you might want to know about me is that I love technology. In Iran smart phones and tablets are useless although many people have, because there is a really poor internet access, so people can not use technology in order to add to their knowledge and improve everyday. In contrast to Iran, in the United States life would be hard without these devices and most people are attached to those devices. Technology is intended to make people’s lives easier and that’s why I like it. And as you might predict, my favorite company is Apple.

When I was in Iran, I had many friends, but moving to New York made me alone. The first few months I was always at home studying for the different tests I had to take, so it felt really bad that other than my parents I had no one to communicate with. It was really a hard time. Therefore, one of my priorities is to make a lot of friends here, especially now that I am in college.

The characteristics I mentioned above are the very basic characteristics that a person could have. I am sure that by communicating to each other, we can know much more about each other, and make the bond between us much stronger.

picture 5picture 8picture 7picture 6picture 4picture 3picture 2picture 1

My name is Lui, Kwok Po.First of all, I speak Cantonese better than English and Mandarin since Ā I was born in Hong Kong, China. It is prestigious and flourishing city that have almost the same size as New York City. I was always hanging around with friends and had been visited almost everywhere in Hong Kong. The whole city would be ablaze with light by night. Many people are complaining that there are air pollution in Hong Kong as polluted air blows from mainland China to Hong Kong. However, there are too few job available in Hong Kong, so overtime, the job market had been saturated. As a result, me and my family decided to immigrating to New York City.

I am describing myself as a reader, especially in math textbook and online math resources. I am motivating myself by doing a lot of math calculation, so I honed my math skills overtime. I like to doing a lot of AMC(standing for American Mathematics Competition) problems, similar to the one above. I am also describing myself as a charming and humble person, you could imagine me as these two handsome guys in the image above. I always like to solving problems without looking into solution beforehand, since it cannot helping me to deepen my thought. I’ve always looking into a website call math stack exchange, it is a site that people always enlighten my thought. The snapshot of the site is showing on the image I’ve given.

As a math person and part of the Baruch college, I would like to join the Actuarial science club, not only that I could learn to solving more probabilistic and statistic problem. These problem may helping me to develop practical skills in solving insurance risk problem.
