Jewish Study Center

My MSC professor informed me that there was going to have a conference host on Apr. 19th, which was Dissent and Dissention: Approaching Ultra-Orthodoxy, the Wasserman Jewish Studies Center’s sixth annual conference. I went to the conference, it was a special experience to me. As we know, Hasidic community is distinguished from any other community. Hasidic community is a branch of Orthdox Judism, they follow different nome and practice Judism. The conference I attended was about the experience of how LBGT people recognize their identity and left their Hasidic community. Those people have to dealing with not only to leave their family, but also how to survive after they left their community. It was extremely tough decision to make to leave their community, since their family will be labeled OTC, and their sibling’s marriage will also be affected. For them, it is not only a decision
about to leave their religion or not, but live or die. I admire their great courage to overcome the difficulties, and I appreciate the Jewish Study Center host this lecture to help us understand and learn from these people who have great courage to chase the real self.
