Outside pressure and familial did not have an effect with what I want to be or choose to be for my career plans. Eventually, my parents did not have anything against to what I want to major in college or what I want to be in the future. However they do care about which path I choose for my career. My parents just hope that I will do well with college and be able to find a good job that will provide myself a better living. As my parents did not get much of an education themsevles, has always told me about how it is important to get through college for a better education since many ouccupations requires a college level degree. My family has never forced me to do anything that they want me accomplish that they wanted for themselves because they believe that by supporting me to accomplish my own career choices would be better to just making me pursue choices they make for me.
I did not really know what path I wanted to pursue for the future, but I came upon the decision of going on a path for accounting even though I do not have much of an understanding of this field. I guess college is the place for me to discover my interests, strengths, and weaknesses, which can help me decide what or who I want to be. When it comes to making choices, I feel that sometimes there are just so many to choose from and at times it is hard to come to something that you are really passionate and would not regret. With the support of my family and friends, I am sure that I will be able to explore the different possible fields that I might be interested in based on my interests.

Personal Statement

Growing up and learning new thing every step I took was important to me. Learning from my mistakes and taking in new things everyday. Everything felt so different after I have finished junior high school because high school was a new challenge to me. During my years of high school, I felt that it is I was learning to be more responsible. I remember the time when I was learning about community service and it was the first time during freshman year of high school. I have completed my first community service at a daycare. Even though it was just spending time with little kids, I thought that by helping out and spending time with the little kids was my first experience by helping the community. I have learned that the purpose behind most community service is to give back to the community just by giving some of our own times and help out the ones in need of help.
After my first community service, I was required to continue each semester by completing some sort of community service. My very next community service was helping out at the public library. It felt very different than before where I went to a daycare and spending time with little kids. At the library it was like a whole new experience where I did shelving and just help organizing the shelves when there are books gets out of place. I went to volunteer at the library almost at least once a week, unless I was not able to go in. Aside from volunteering at the library, I helped out around in my high school helping teachers and have done some charity walks like the AIDs Walk, the Avon for Breast Cancer Walk and Light the Night Walk.
Through my experiences of volunteering, I would like to continue to volunteering and giving back to the community because just giving some of my time can help many others. I am sure that there are more to just giving back to the community, but to also volunteering can bring people together. Although I would want to continue volunteering, I feel that I also want to get started on gaining experiences from getting an internship or a job.

Reaction to Strong Interest Inventory Test
jessica91 on Apr 11th 2010
By looking over the results from the Strong interest Inventory test, I was kind of surprised with the results. I know that I want to major in accounting and through the strong interest inventoary test, accounting was consider as my top three out of the ten strong occuapations that was a result from my interests. I did not really expect that my interests can show or give an overview of what field would best fit me according to my interests. I do not know if those jobs suggested from the results will really fit me, but I think it will be a great way for me to get an overview of my interests and what kind of things I should look forward to for my next steps in my career process.
When I was looking at the six general occupational themes and getting a better understanding of what each of them mean, I was quite surprised to see my three highest themes, which were conventional, investigative, and realistic. Before getting the results back, I thought that some possible themes would be conventional, artistic, and investigative. After viewing the results, I might take these information in mind as I continue to develop more of an understanding of what I am looking for in the near future for my career path. I know that these are not the definite fields where i can choose from because I am sure that I might come upon discovering other interests that might not have reflected out of me yet and that my interests might change.

Introdution

Being born and raised in New York as a Chinese American, was one of the biggest experience I have been through so far. One thing that I really want to do is to visit many other countries and see how the world is like outside of the United States because I have never had the chance to visit another country before. As I was growing up, I have always learned to be independent since I had to learn how to take care of myself when my parents were at work trying to make an earning. When I reached my first year of high school, everything felt so different compared to elementary school to junior high school. High school was one turning point for me, where I learned many things from the mistakes I have made and all of the friends that I have made along the way.
I have always enjoyed mathematics back in my days of elementary to high school, even though I still do as of today. Many of my friends will be telling me how I am good at math, but I always tell them how I am not good at math and it is just that I am interested in the materials being taught. When someone encounters some sort of problem in this subject, I would try to use what I understand to help them understand it themselves.
I do not know if people sees this in me, but I think I am someone who is supportive to the ones around me. Let me put it this way, I am always there for my family and friends when they need the support. I am someone who likes to help others in need, but at the same time I feel that I help others more than myself at times. I think that it is important to provide help for others because there are many people that can use the help where in return you will receive a good feeling for having helped someone.
On the other hand, one thing that I think I need to work on would be my communications skills because when I have to talk in front of a group of audience, I would feel very nervous and have some difficulties carrying on what I was going to present. As a freshman in college, I feel that developing better communication skills will help me throughout my career.
Studying have always been something that I try to do for school, but it was hard since studying is like a weakness for me. Just sitting there with the books open and trying to concentrate is hard already. This brings me to another weakness of mine, which is procrastination. I am sure that many of you encounters this problem at times, but procrastination have always interfered as I try to study.
Well these are some of the strengths and weaknesses that I can think of that shows who I am. As I continue with my education and path to my career, I hope I will discover more about myself through my experiences that are coming my way.
