I actually don’t know what to write about so I’m going to write whatever is on my mind and I could tell you about myself. I was born here in New York, and grew up in Washington Heights, which actually has a long lasting influence on me till today. I feel that some of the ways I have been influenced by living in the neighborhood I live in has actually help me in guiding the way I want to live my everyday life. My parents are Dominican and they’re very traditional in the way they do what they do. To adapt to the new generation of how people live is the hardest part of them living their normal lives. They used to hold me back from doing many things that regular kids do now, like sleepover or stay out late. My parents make the best effort possible to talk to me and counsel me when they have time and tell me somethings that will help me later on in life. My mom talked to me about having girlfriends and having sex when I was only 5 and I feel that she did the right thing. She cares about me enough to risk telling me something that somebody else might take the wrong way, just to let me know that things could go wrong and I have to be safe before I try to do anything. Not only did I get counseled about sex, but life in general and how they were when they were kids. I fell they don’t want me to live the life they had lived back then, and take more initiative and do what I have to do to get around in life. My way of living now is actually much different form that of my parents, they lived a life that no young kid wants to live. Even when having hard times, they have fun and they encourage me now to have as much fun as I can and live life to the fullest because now that their childhood passed, they regret not doing or being able to do what they wanted to do.
