Reading response #1 to the lessons/passages

The passage about rejection (lesson #25) resonated with me a lot because it serves as my personal reminder to handle harsh critiques on my work (both art and business projects) with both positivity (I know this sounds a little weird) and resilience. When the passage mentioned that no comments could be worse than what we’ve said about ourselves a quote popped up in my head in bold saying ‘you are your worst enemy.’ Keeping that in mind when someone picks out only negative attributes about my work would give me the ability to recover mentally; I tend to think dreadfully about most projects I complete so having this mindset would give me ‘thick skin.’ Additionally, the quote in the passage “keep your rejection letters; paste them to your wall” made me feel a sense of determination and drive when remembering times where my abilities were questioned in my work i.e.  a test, essay, project etc. It reminded me to take that not only as an opportunity to prove those ideas about myself wrong but at the same time strengthen the areas where I lack—I don’t want to completely discard the critiques I receive because many times those comments can help me grow/improve my work. Lastly, I found the last part of the passage very empowering and useful because saying ‘you could be right’ seems like the only right thing to say during a harsh critique because you aren’t giving them a definitive response that you believe every comment they made about you.
