Wiki
It seems in our society for the ball to start rolling, it takes a lot of time but once it does, it explodes. Wiki like wikipedia took a long time to build but now its taken off to a whole new level of contributors and viewers. I find it funny that anyone is pretty much able to add or make changes yet it is a pretty reliable source for information. Wikipedia uses tons of hyperlinks and also comes out as a top number 1 spot for lots of searches on a search engine. How information that can be altered by anyone still come out as a number 1 hit on a search engine is interesting.
I personally use the wikipedia in many cases for a quick answer because of my belief that the wikipedia is still pretty accurate. It has a very detailed format with hyperlinks to other pages for more information on related topics. I wonder how much longer wikipedia can stay as a reliable source or even stay on top of the list on search engines. Is it because people are lazy to do research or is it that they are not informed that the wikipedia is not a credible source?

“Here Comes Everybody”
After reading the first 3 chapters of “Here Comes Everybody” by Clay Shirky, i was amazed at how much the internet’s function has changed and advanced. Yes the internet is a powerful tool and Shirky gives us examples of that with his stories, but it can also have a negative impact. However, I do truly believe that benefits can out weigh the cost with the internet.
I couldn’t stop thinking about when i first had the internet and used it pretty much just for research and instant messaging. Instant messaging is now in a truly more advanced way in which we can leave messages on a blog or a twitter and even be able to attach a file or picture. With these advancement in the internet, i feel that Shirky is trying to tell us that the way we now interact and communicate, is a whole new “ecosystem”.
This new ecosystem is now how businesses and organizations communicate and is becoming part of the norm. I feel that Shirky was stating that this new way of grouping and communication is shaping and affecting society as a whole. I do believe it is advancement in communication where as everything is more instant and more tailored to your own needs. We are now able to follow and keep up with the news, statuses and friends that we want to and can filter out whatever that is not important to us.
