It seems in our society for the ball to start rolling, it takes a lot of time but once it does, it explodes. Wiki like wikipedia took a long time to build but now its taken off to a whole new level of contributors and viewers. I find it funny that anyone is pretty much able to add or make changes yet it is a pretty reliable source for information. Wikipedia uses tons of hyperlinks and also comes out as a top number 1 spot for lots of searches on a search engine. How information that can be altered by anyone still come out as a number 1 hit on a search engine is interesting.
I personally use the wikipedia in many cases for a quick answer because of my belief that the wikipedia is still pretty accurate. It has a very detailed format with hyperlinks to other pages for more information on related topics. I wonder how much longer wikipedia can stay as a reliable source or even stay on top of the list on search engines. Is it because people are lazy to do research or is it that they are not informed that the wikipedia is not a credible source?
Thats a great question you asked. As time goes by, I believe more search engine and sites similar to wiki will develope. This may cause wiki to lose its place. Indeed, many people are not aware that wikipedia is not a credible source. It wasnt until last year that I learn about the information being posted on wikipedia. A professor warned us about using it to do our research and since then, I try to avoid using wikipedia.
