This is a topic that I hold close to my heart. As a gamer, I want to educate and inform people to show that gaming in moderation can be a great tool to help players improve their lives. Video Game “Addiction”

Video gaming is sometimes thought of as an unproductive, destructive, and addictive habit. This is perpetuated by the media covering extreme, sensational stories of gamers dying or becoming ill. Often, these stories fail to address any issues that the gamers struggled with prior to gaming. Correlation is not causation. People play games for many different reasons. The following videos from Extra Credits address these misconceptions about “gaming addiction” and whether such a thing actually exists. The first of the three videos provides context and brings up important questions for the audience to keep in mind. The second is a personal account of gaming compulsion from game designer James Portnow. This second video is important because, sometimes, people forget that behind every computer/tv screen is a human being. Every gamer has a story, and this video serves as a connection to the audience in the form of an anecdote. Last but not least, the third video provides the audience with a call to action. Viewers will be able to learn what they should do to address “gaming addiction.”
