Through Yong Soon Min photographs she explored her identity as a South Korean growing up in America, in these photographs she explores 1953 the year that she was born and chronology of the historical trauma: The Korean War, the student uprising in the 1960s where she explores themes of racial melancholia and Racial disassociation and different memories of Korean American stories.

The exploration in Yong Soon Min’s work of feeling that she doesn’t fit into what it is to be a South Korean or an American and her struggle to being seen as one is a powerful reminder of the struggles that immigrants experience when living in a new country where this sense of identity is lost or up in the air, where one no longer feels that they fit into a category.
