Mary Wollstonecraft was a feminist. She fought for the rights of women, and she thought that women lived like slaves. She also believed that both Men and women need to have same education, and women would be more independent after receiving education in great degree. However, women’s rights and positions were oppressed by the society, so women become “weak characters” and “more useless members”. At that time, women just had some basic knowledge; they even cannot have formal education. Their jobs were take care their children and do the housework. They depended on their fathers and husbands.
I think that women’s social standing was decided in ancient time. In ancient time, men were more powerful and can gain more food. This made women need to relay on men, and men also saw women as their property. They set up the rule to adjust women’s behaviors and positions. As the time pass on, “they do to-day, what they did yesterday, merely because they did it yesterday.” Mary Wollstonecraft also said, “All the difference that I can discern arises from the superior advantage of liberty, which enables the former to see more of life.” Men had more power and can receive more education, so they can see more. People can see more means they can know more things and control more powers. They didn’t want women to become out of their control. At that time women were “blind obedience” to their men. Therefore, I knew Mary Wollstonecraft was in a very difficult situation when she decided to stand up and speak for the rights of women because she didn’t have enough power to fight against men. Now, women still face prejudice when they work outside.
In most part, I agree with this blog. In our history women have often faced many challenges. It is so sad that we only think about the sad parts in our history where we fail to realize how these things have come about. In fact, there was a time long ago where women and men were both equal and both worked together in order to maintain a family which was during the Paleolithic Era (also known as “Old Stone Age). After this Era was during the Neolithic Era (also known as “New Stone Age”) where agriculture had begun. Due to agriculture, women were not needed as much because there was a surplus in food and women’s focus was now based on raising a family. As a women myself, I agree that women have been degraded and I especially believe in the importance towards education in women. Knowledge is power and as human beings, we all deserve a chance of being enlightened.
I agree with this blog. Women for many years have been oppressed. Using the word “sad” like the student who commented earlier to this post did is in a way false. That in fact was a reality for women for many years. In many societies today women do not have equal rights as men do. It is meant to keep people in control, just how we denied rights for African Americans because of fear of another kind of person, we wanted to control them so they could not better themselves and challenge others.
I agree with this blog, which shows that women are “weak characters” in that kind of situation. Women always stand in lower situation and do not have equal right as men. It trends to be a manner that they always relay on men in the society in ancient time, But some people like Mary Wollstonecraft stand out to shows that women have power and right to get the equal positions as men. This is very important for women to change their positions. As these femenist shows that education is

Although the author does not have enough power to against men, more and more people will follow her to work for women’s rights.
I have never denied the reality or issues that women have passed across in history. I just claimed that it is importance to know our history. If ever someone wants to make a change or thinks something is wrong then they should be enlightened and have the proper knowledge to know the history behind what they are trying to change in order to make a change. If we knew our history right then we would know that humans were not always “racist” or “sexist”. There was a time when everyone worked together as a whole.
It is true that women still face prejudice when they work outside. However, education is the tool which can reduce the prejudice. Women can achieve the same academic success as men, make as much money as men can, and play as an important role as men in the society. It is education offers the precious opportunity for women to fight for women’s right. The author believes that women’s faults stem from their low status in society and insufficient education. The former one we might not have the ability to change it in one day, but sufficient education is the tool which we can use by ourselves.
I would have to disagree with part of the statement you have made; namely the part where you mention that women were subservient since “ancient times”. We may be in disagreement since we may have different definitions of when exactly “ancient times” were, but I would argue that women were more equal to men far back when humans still lived in hunter gatherer societies. Before we established cities both men and women played an equally vital role in the acquistion of food, men would hunt for meat and women would gather up food and raise children. What makes me believe that men and women were more equal long ago (2000+ years) is that that some Native American tribes were set up in a matriarchal fashion (along with other tribes not found in the americas). The lost gospel of Peter even describes female leaders of the church, and the various other lost gospels describe Jesus as saying that women should be the heads of the church. I figure that men were more keen to put women into a subservient position when they established cities was because the new concept of surplus made them lethargic and greedy. Certain men wanted to horde every bit of food/gold/wine/land they could, and to do this needed a task force of people. At this point not only women would become subservient but the entire lower working class would.
I agree with your post, however, id like to bring up a theory of education. As the expression says, “knowledge is power”, and as we can see thorough the progression from past to present, isn’t that the truth? Women were inferior to men because at the time, both lacked knowledge and education so the only way to distinguish power was by physical strength. Now, knowledge and education is power, and the smarter one is, the more powerful he or she becomes.
Since both men and women are both allowed to get the same education, there is no unfair advantage and women are able to lead successful lives because they are able to study and get a good education.
Women’s role in society has not always been the same, meaning women at times were not seen as weak, unimportant, or insignificant. In other words, society did not paint a sad picture of women’s role throughout history. That being said, it is important to focus on the matter of presence, where women are not yet treated equally in most places world wide and women’s right movement still needs tremendous support.
Many people think that fighting for women’s rights means helping them gain power. However, should it be that way? In an equal society, power should be owned by no one side, men or women. The rights that women have been seeking are those of equal opportunities to everything, including access to education, working in areas thought ought to be held by men only, sports, pursuing higher career, and so on and so forth. Society should be able to see women at their full potential and beyond the assumed functions. Yet Kant said in order to reach enlightenment, courage is a crucial quality. It comes with great costs though. A girl was shot in the head for publicly declaring her desire to go to school. How many of us have such courage to go against the norm? I may see our chance to enlightenment based on the majority of our answers.
