“The Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God”

The texts we read for Monday all lead to a same idea, Enlightenment. They illustrated the idea of human rights, which is Life, Liberty, and Property. In “The Declaration of Independence,” a phrase caught my attention, “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God .”  According to the John Locke, the law of nature was simply upon “reason and equity.” In the text, LAWS is in a plural form, which means both “reason and equity.” What is the reason for the United States to dissolve from England? The answer is EQUITY. The authors of “The Declaration of Independence” and the colonizers argued that the King of the Britain, George III, failed to give them the same equal rights as those British people.

NATURE, according to Oxford dictionary, is “the basic or inherent features of something, especially when seen as characteristic of it.” NATURE described the inherent features of deist. GOD, is ” the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority,” which the God is above human beings. God, in all religion is described as almighty and omnipotence. NATURE’S GOD, were referred to as the God of deist. They believed that their separation from the Britain was the will of God. God entitled them the right to separate themselves from the inequality, and enjoy their right of being treat equally.

  1. everything with the religion will become holy, the The Declaration of Independence can represent the holy bible in that time, everyone should read it and follow it. I questioned about God some time, how can he treats everyone fairly so do the law. How can law treat everyone fairly? because law was made by human being and human beings have desire if the criminals can satisfied the law exacter’s desire like money or fame, it’s that means the criminals can get out the law? they are lots of dark side under the sun, and most of people see the holy part of the united states, but even the law makers have desire too, they can use a right word to satisfied the personal need while give all people the words: freedom and equity

  2. I agree with you because I also think the Natural law refers to the universe as orderly and balanced and that humans must discover through reason. The Nature of God is the belief in creation. That god created all things, the physical universe, human reason, and is therefore was beyond nature. The laws of God gave order to society and the preservation of existence. . Basically there is an order system that the universe must obey. Subsequently US separation from the Britain was the will of God. God entitled them the right to separate them from the inequality, and enjoy their right of being treated equally. As John Locke argument stated, individuals have natural rights, their rights to life, liberty, and private property.

  3. As a matter of fact, I agree of what you said. When I read the text “The Declaration of Independence,” I think the author try to advocate the laws that treat people equally. However, I may also think it is hard to achieve because some people may not follow the law. Even if nowadays, people who are in higher position, they have more power. Everyone plays a different role in society, thus people will not be equally. “The Declaration of Independence,” it only can exist in idealistic world. It looks like exist in society; there still are some barriers to achieve it.

  4. I totally agree with you. My main focus is about the where you are focusing about, “Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.” The Americans declared their independence from the Great Britain because they no longer wanted to be part of the Britain’s colonies. They wanted to be independent, form their own sates, laws, and rules. They felt a shot of inequality, and they felt that they had rights and that they should claim them.
