I agree with you because i believe ham is a very strange character who is influential. His attitude towards life is depressing. His gestures in the video show, as you said, “life is full suffering”. this is totally accurate. He seems crazy because he wanted to put his parents in a ash bin so that they could suffer. This clearly shows how psychotic he is. He seems to be unfriendly and unpleasant person. your interpretation was spot on and accurate.

I agree with your post and theme. I like how you said you learn from your own mistakes. I agree with this cause in order for us to grow as human beings and becomes better people, we have to go through experiences to shape us. Your theme relates to Aura and I really liked how you connected each other. I didn’t really think of this approach. Beautiful response.

i agree with your posts. Kaspar in the beginning seemed to be lazy and unmotivated. He appeared to have no meaning in life and seems misguided. Until the man in black who changed his view on life and perception of himself. Kaspar saw a new meaning in life. I agree that the man taught kaspar to be better for himself. As an individual kaspar was misguided and since the man in black appeared. Life for kaspar changed.

i also picked your first quote Because I felt Strindberg portrayed her as a strong woman and I also agree with you when you said that during this time women weren’t viewed as strong or as equal to men. It was an interesting point and i also pointed that out in my post. Your second quote shows how she wants a man to control her versus the first quote where she was the one controlling the man. It’s quite a contradiction. She begins with wanting control and being dominant and towards the end she becomes vulnerable and wanting a males dominance.

Miss Julie

First quote: Jean. She made him leap over her riding whip, the way you teach a dog to jump.

Second quote:  Julie. All that is well enough, but Jean—–you must give courage. Take me in your arms and tell me that you love me.

Strindberg portrays contradiction with these two quotes. Based on the first quote, Strindberg portrays   Miss Julie as a strong woman who is dominant. He shows that she is controlling and wants everything her way. Miss Julie challenges the view of woman because of the way she is viewed in this quote. However, the second quote shows her vulnerability and her weakness. She is in need of courage and love that she practically begs Jean to comfort her. Both quotes show how Strindberg contradicts Miss Julie as a character. Also, the term “half woman” relates to Miss Julie. She never really loved her father so her mother took it upon herself To teach her everything she knows. She actually hates her father and lacks a self of her own because she is torn between her parents.

I actually liked your second thesis better because it was more descriptive and focuses on the point you are trying to make. The first one is straightforward and less descriptive. But i agree with you when you said that women caters to men in “The Life of Sensuous Women”. She clearly serves for the men rather than herself,  especially in the first story where she stays with the domain lord even though the sex is terrible and she is unhappy.

  1. The role of women in “The Life of Sensuous Women” shows how women were belittled and used their beauty to ultimately get what they want. Women during the Edo period desired love and acceptance therefore they weren’t respected.
  2. Women were no more than prized objects in “The Life of Sensuous Women”. Sex and pleasure seemed to be the way of life for them. Women were primarily served for a man’s needs, ignoring their own wants and needs.

I agree with your post, Bartleby is depicted as a character who is disobedient. He refused to do almost everything his boss told him to do. i liked how you stated if anyone who wants to keep their job, they certainly wouldn’t be disobedient. His boss continuously asked him to participate in group meetings and reading document with the other co workers but he denied saying ” i would prefer not too”. i also found what you said interesting when you said he does not conform to the pressures of Wall Street to perform beyond their means of their job. Bartleby simply is a abnormal person and could be characterize as a ghost because of his behaviors and nonchalant attitude.

I agree with you when you said the women becomes tolerant and obeys the men in the beginning. she has to pretend that she is happy but in reality she is not. This reminded of the “Mistress of a Domain Lord”. The women over time became disgusted with the lord and decided not to say anything about her unhappiness. She becomes compliant and unsatisfied with her situation. I see where your coming from when you say she becomes compliant. The women didn’t like the monk at first. It was clear and obvious but she continued the relationship for all the wrong reasons.
