The digital work that I found interesting to reflect the great work of King Lear, by William Shakespeare, was the slideshow video, “Man Reduced to Essentials,” you can find above. This slideshow video tells the play of King Lear by demonstrating what happens in each act. Specifically the digital user focuses primarily on the transformations that King Lear undergoes throughout the play. Because I felt that the digital user, within their digital work, used transformation as a central theme, I believe they found the evolution of King Lear most appealing. They show their fascination with King Lear’s evolution by describing King Lear’s state of mind and his persona. For example, in the “Man Reduced to Essentials” the digital user dedicated a slide to “Lear’s Transformation,”  and within this slide the audience could see how King Lear went from an egotistical, selfish man, in Act One, to a doubtful one in Act Two, then to a man realizing his mistakes. King Lear’s transformation continues throughout the rest of the acts, so much so that in Act Five, he is wise. This tracking of the evolution of King Lear appealed to me because it was interesting to see how King Lear can humanize himself due to the familial adversities he faced. I also found it interesting when he realized he was just a mortal after having gone through a lot of trouble. It made me question his perspective of God and if he thinks to be a God he can’t feel human/flesh emotions. I also questioned if he came to the realization of being a mortal because he realized his position was exactly that, just a position. His position did not give him supernatural abilities or make him into a supernatural being, where love can be measurable and in turn will win his favor. All in all, this digital work sparked analytical questions and caused one to think deeper than the surface.
