I find this video to be very interesting. Other than the fact that Coca Cola is advertising its soda, I feel that the advertisement is also sending a very strong and important message. The message is that happiness can be derived from the simplest things and in this case it can be derived from a weird vending machine. Furthermore, Coca Cola’s main slogan runs along the lines of “Coca Cola spread the happiness.” I personally feel that this is a very important and powerful statement. Can we really reduce happiness to a bottle of soda? I think that this statement can be pushed further by saying that we, as individuals, tend to over-complicate happiness and sometimes forget the simple things that make us feel good. For example, in the commercial the act of giving to others really did spread joy. I strongly agree with this statement and I am glad that it is being put out there because we must be reminded that the simple things are just as important as everything else. People tend to forget these things and as a result end up living their lives with their heads in the clouds and turn out having a rude awakening. If we are not reminded to enjoy the simple things then we may run the risk of spending our lives reaching for the stars while walking passed the roses.
I thought this video was really cool. I wish something like that happened at Baruch… Maybe we should talk to the new “Fix Baruch” student government and tell them to get more Coca-Cola in the school! I personally prefer Coca-Cola over Pepsi any day. Coke is a lot stronger and tastes better in an ice cream float, try it!
I never noticed it before, but Coca-Cola does sell happiness in a lot of their advertisements. The best coca cola advertisements are the ones they show before movies at a movie theater. They are usually about three minutes long with a short story line that eventually leads to a happy ending. There are always smiling characters, happy songs, and colorful scenery. My favorite commercial was one I saw when I went to see the movie avatar, a really good animated film. In the commercial, little otherworldly characters were flying around on things and in a weird world run by the power of a coca cola bottle. At the end the characters reach the coca cola bottle and live happily ever after. The story line wasn’t the best story line I have ever seen but the animation was amazing and the way they sold happiness and made everyone in the theater smile for a split second was cool.
I think people should appreciate the little things. I like what David said, “we could spend our whole lives looking towards the stars and walk pass the roses.” We should appreciate the little things that make us happy. If we take life too seriously we can prevent ourselves from being happy.
