A Quiet Poem

Hello everyone!

My video is an interpretation of “A Quiet Poem” by Frank O’Hara. I wanted to make an animation first, but when I started to analyze the poem verse by verse I realized it had a different, deeper meaning, and decided to show it this way. The poem touches the issue of sound, how noise and the activity of certain environments isolate us from what’s really happening around us, so my video uses a lot of different sounds. It was easy to choose the scenes, but very hard to find all the different noises. I am happy with the result, and hope you guys enjoy it! Hope to hear your opinions about the message I’m trying to send.

Thanks!

Digital Project for Essay #3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOPt7ZL7_ac

My paper focused on the poem “Lady of Shallot” by Tennyson. My thesis discusses Tennyson’s motive as upending empiricist philosophy through his depiction of subjective and objective perspective of the main character.

The film opens with a shot of coins stacked high and in clusters. This are the towers of Shallot from within which the lady, imprisoned, looks out towards Camelot, the “towers” in the distance.

The rest of the film is seen through a bottle and is looking out a window overlooking the street. The image is unclear and deceptive, but at times glimpses of clarity are noticed. This captures the feel of the lady using medium (the mirror) to look out through the window and not being able to see clearly. Eventually, the scene zooms out and the color is added which has the effect of illuminating and clarifying the view, which is representative of idealist argument Tennyson is trying to make.

Basically, the idea of the video is to convey perspective in a skewed light, then with clarity.

Digital essay!

Hello guys!

We did a video on Audre lorde’s poems “Contact Lenses” and “Good Mirrors are not Cheap”.  We wanted to film at first, but due to conflicting schedules, we just mashed up a few youtube videos.  We hope you enjoy our video and try to guess what our theme is!

All the Whiskey in Heaven Digital Essay

The video is about All the Whiskey in Heaven by Charles Bernstein. Alex and I decided that we would show the emphasis on the literal interpretation and invert the images and videos to make the poem hold ground based on the constant “not” through the three stanzas. However, in the last stanza we changed up the video to portray the change in style that is seen in the poem. Additionally, in the end, we made an echo that we thought would give more emphasis into the ending of the poem but the resulting ‘again’ is without echo to show that he can carry his own weight in respecting the love.

Enjoy the video:

Help!

Does anyone know of a website other than YouTube to upload my video project because YouTube stripped the audio off of my video? 🙁

My Digital Baby

Hello fellow movie makers! I present to you, my video. I will be very happy if this does not make you want to cry tears of blood. I really enjoyed watching the other projects so I hope you enjoy mine. The poem I chose is Myung Mi Kim’s “Into Such Assembly” and my thesis is… well I’ll let you guys guess that. I predict (for myself anyway) that Monday will be a day of hiding behind your hands and anxiously watching the faces of your fellow classmates while your video plays, can’t wait!

DIGITAL ESSAY

My poem is “The Rotting Symbol” by Eileen Myles. As I mentioned before, this poem struck me when I first read it and it took me a while to understand it as well. I had to write it in paragraph form and read it about a hundred time until I came up with my thesis.

What I’ve done with the video is a clouge with a several other videos from youtube that has the theme of “change.” I used the youtube downloader that we’ve discussed in class and solved my music problem by using a korean song. I thought that most of you won’t understand korean, it will be easier to deliver the tone change within the song. The mood of the song changes often and I thought that would make the video more stronger. Also, to further deliver the message, I selected certain sentences from my essay and have added them.  Hope you enjoy them 🙂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJXV2YPsZoc

Digital Essay, Whiskey in Heaven

This was a fun project to do and i enjoyed it. My poem is All the Whiskey in Heaven by Charles Bernstein, he likes to joke around a lot and he used this poem to make fun of other poets, i took advantage of all of his readings of this poem and i created a video based on that, i have pictures of stereotypical love poems and then him reading his own poem and him reading how he thinks a poem should be, together i think i created a very powerful video. The songs all seem to fit and i love listening to them. Overall it was very fun to do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4E6iB7VHFw
