My Thoughts and Ideas on the Project
So I’ve been searching and searching for the right poem. One that helps me express how I feel about what poetry is all about. It took me a couple of days, but I’m confident that I finally found it. The main reason why it took me so long to find this special poem was the fact that I was looking for a poem that was about poems. How we should take them in. In class I discussed how I hate when people destroy the natural beauty of a poem, so eager to find the thesis that they remove the rhymes, the use of words, just to find out what it means. Why can’t we just read it and go with how it makes us feel? Even if it makes us confused and frustrated, we should base its meaning off our own unique emotions.
So when it comes to my video, I’m not 100% sure what I want to do. I love making videos, so the process won’t be straining, only the initial “lift off” is difficult for me. I want to choose a slow song for my video, but one with alot of emotion built into it, maybe like “Hallow” by Pantera. This band may seem a little strange if some of you were to listen to it, but im sure I can get a different emotion out of each and every one of you, much like a poem should.
I don’t know what else the video will contain, maybe of me doing something that will get a different reaction out of each of you (dont worry nothing scary or creepy ha ha) but just something artistic, different. I want to really reach out to you all on an individual level.
Digital Essay
Making a video in general is something I have always wanted to do. I never took a digital production course or art course before so the idea of putting together clips and pictures in pursuits of portraying a thesis really catches my attention. This isn’t going to be easy, but I have a feeling once I get a good idea of my thesis, using pictures and clips is only going to make it easier to grasp. My creativity along with my group members is going to be a good combination. Since I have never made a video before, it comforts me that I have two other people contributing to this project. I am certain we are going to have totally different thesis, and approaches at this project, but I think that, that is what makes it so interesting. It’s going to take patience, collaborating, and creativity, but when it is all said and done, it’s going to be my first of many videos to come.
Never done this before but seems interesting
the idea of relaying my thesis statement in the form of a video sounds pretty interesting. Like the students before me have stated, I’m part excited and part scared because I don’t really know all the details on how to make such a video. In addition, I think finding the right poem to work with will probably make it harder because it sets back the whole project. Im done to three poems, one about love, one about mystery and the last about happiness. I know that it would make a lot of sense to use the happiness poem, being that the class is about happiness and all, but I’m leaning more towards the love poem. It just has something in it that for some reason, everyone can attribute a part of their life with it. It holds the readers interest and it’s pretty easy to analyze haha, but mainly it’s the interest that got me going.
All in all, I don’t remember the last time I was this psyched to do an essay. It’s kinda fun to think about. I guess we’ll see at the end of the semester who’s really got the best video and paper. Good luck guys, and if possible just drop a comment on what you’d pick: love, mystery, or happiness?
Poems Poems and More Poems
So i have spent a lot of time looking at all of these poems, the hundreds of them and thousands of them that there are. It is not that i am getting discouraged at all of these poems but i just really do not like them and do not see the point of a poem. Most of them just make no sense at all and have no abstract meaning and yet people like them.
I am kind of looking forward to doing the video, i am just not excited about doing it on a poem. I would like something contemporary that is for sure, having something from the 19th century would just depress me since every one of them were drunk or high at the time of writing their poems. A favorite author of mine said that people who write poems are those who fail at writing music or songs. I can completely agree, it takes far more skill to write a song than a poem.
Anyway, i digress, i think the video would be fun to do and i am kind of looking forward for it, it is sometimes hard for me to show my creativity within a paper but this would be the third video project i have done and i am looking forward to what i can do on this.
Cannot wait to make the Video!!!
OMG!!! I totally forgot to do this blog!!! I guess I am so into Spring Break ! I didn’t realize we have a blog due for last Friday until my friend remained me this morning. Anyways, I still wanted to post this blog for I really look forward to this fun project.
Over the past week, I was searching for short video clips and ideas online. And now I have many interesting ideas in my mind and I cannot wait show them in my video! However, I am still undecided which poem I am going to work on. I still have to work that out with my partner. Since this is my first video project, I would like to do my best and try to make the best of it. I feel both nervous and excited for this project. I remember when the first time I heard that we have to do a video project, there was a panic in my heart. I thought it will be very difficult and I actually didn’t want to do this. The fear has gone away a little and I have little confident now. And I really hope with Luke’s help, this project would become easy and fun to me.
This is one of the video I found. I think it’s very creative. The theme is about “the power of communication.”
Enjoy! http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/Jnu9KEzm8Xo/
Enjoy rest of the Break 🙂
Digital Essay
I just realized we had an assignment due on Friday, April 22 x.x
I know this is late but for the sake of putting my ideas across I will post this blog anyways.
So for the Digital Essay, I had many ideas that came to mind.
First, I love editing videos (even though I am not good at it).
I hope in this Digital Essay I have a chance to do that.
Second, I’ve always wanted to do something with claymation or a flash animation.
I have made a claymation once in Junior High School, which was really fun. Interesting enough, it was for History Class, my worst subject! I’ll have to say, my History teacher was one of the best history teacher there was because she made the class creative and fun.
Flash animation was something I did in High School but also not very good at it. I’m not sure I can actually make a flash animation for this digital essay because animations take a lonnnnnnngggggggggggggg time to make. =(
Anyways, I’m really excited about this digital essay. I wonder what other people have in mind and what they will be doing.
I’m also wondering what we’ll learn on the day we get back from this break.
I’m still a little confused about how we are going to connect the paper assignment with the digital essay if we are making the digital essay in groups. Does the digital essay have to relate to both our paper assignments? Or is it two separate things?
Digital Essay…
The digital essay seems like an interesting idea. I will get a chance to show my creativity to the other members of the class. The videos from last semester are short, concise, and overall enjoyable to watch. Choosing one specific poem for the essay will be problematic because there are just so many poems that can be found on the internet. In ways I feel anxious (as I always do) about the digital essay, will it be good enough?, will it fit within the time allotted, will I be able to collaborate with another member of the class, etc. At this moment in time, the digital essay seems foreign to me, but hopefully as time goes by I will be comfortable doing it.
Final Paper/Project Ideas
My internet had been down a few days but while i was cruising the web at the library (yes, those still exist), i found an awesome poem by Mary Oliver called “When Death Comes”. The title seemed a little dreary but interesting at the same time. I thought this poem fit perfectly with the class theme of happiness. Her poem is basically saying that when its all over, i dont want to leave this life with no good memories; to die and have not had any amazing experiences. And after doing some research about Mary Oliver and reading some of her other poems, i realized that she was more on the romantic side. She included a few references to nature and animals. She compared the coming of death as “the hungry bear in autumn” which I though was a great comparison beause the bear has to get all its food to hybernate for the winter; basically coming for what it needs and leaving, like Death.
I think a video for this wont be too hard but there are just so many ways you can go with this poem. The hard part of this project is coming up with a thesis for the essay. I’m finding that aspect very difficult due to the vagueness of the prompt but i LOVEEEE this poem so i don’t want to get discouraged and jump from poem to poem. But i’m thinking that if Professor Kaufman allows me to (i have yet to request to do this awesome poem) my thesis may be focused around how Mary Oliver used personification to give things in nature a voice that adequately relays human thoughts and feelings such as sadness and satisfaction… It needs work but that’s all i got right now

Response Paper Numero 6
I’m equal parts excited and scared out of my mind about the digital essay. I’ve never made a video for a class so this is definitely something that is totally foreign to me. However, the concept of taking a thesis and expressing it through something that isn’t a paper really intrigues me. What I enjoyed about watching the videos made by previous students was that there were so many different ways to approach the digital essay. “Tell All the Truth But Tell It Slant” and “McDonalds” was more acting based whereas “We Real Cool” and “The Barbie Complex” were more stop motion. By the way, great job last semester Danielle, JAR and Brian! The questions that I have are about the technical aspects of the project like what programs I should use or the resources I have available. I’m sure that the famous Luke will have the answers to all of my worries. I’m having difficulty choosing a poem and coming up with a thesis that will translate well on video. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to seeing our finished projects!
DIGITAL ESSAY
Digital essay… about a poem…
It sounds really confusing, and at the same time interesting. I’ve never done something called digital essay before. I AM REALLY EXCITED. I’m looking through all the resources to find MY poem. I want this to be something that has a “click” to myself but, this is difficult than I thought.
When we were looking at the examples in class the other day, motion picture(?) caught my attention. I’m thinking I’ll do something like that. But, I wonder who I’ll be working with since we’ll probably have different ideas by the time we meet in class.
Until this point, I’m still in the position of debating with myself of what to do what to do what to do but I hope all works out well and I find the perfect partners that will help me further prove my point.
