Contact lenses

I strain so hard to see

Which makes my eyes only want more

But this hurt my eyes

It made them tear.

I remember when I wore glasses

All the time

And my eyes would see differently

Grasping things but only just

Of what they were layed upon.

Of course I could see

Anything

That was close

Bringing the image

To the back of my brain.

But now my eyes

Are one with me

Truly seeing what was only a glimpse

Of everything that was once a blur.

I can see

So clearly

But the it hurts to put them in.

“Best In Show”

Best in Show is directed by Christopher Guest, this movie is mainly on five dogs and their owners were prepared to join the Annual Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show in Philadelphia. At first I thought this film was weird, Christopher Guest portrays the film in a documentary-like setting, each person’s story was told one at a time. I watched for about 20 minutes, and slightly puzzled by what was going on. Then I started to laugh and didn’t stop until the movie ended.
The actors do a brilliant job of half learnt, half improvised lines. The characters are all believable stereotypes: the yuppies, the millionaire glamour queen, the gays, the hillbilly, Mr. and Mrs. ordinary with separate pasts, and the dogs themselves are great, and probably are overlooked in most reviews. They definitely have personalities of their own, and they seem very normal compared to their handlers – much like the kids whose parents make them endure high profile talent shows. The whole movie really takes place in when they arrived in PA for the show competition. I think this movie is not really about dogs, it was something like a commentary on relationships. From the interaction between Gerry and Cookie Fleck, a middle-class couple from Florida who run into monetary problems and are forced to sleep in the hotel’s storage room when they finally arrive. The Flecks to the interplay of the two commentators at the Mayflower, it was obvious that source of the humor was really the interplay between people, not the quirkiness of dog owners. It was only more obvious because the humans tried to use the dogs as surrogate partners if they didn’t get the response that they were looking to get! I really like dogs so I enjoyed this movie, and it was really funny as well.

Best In Documentaries

“Best in the Show'” directed by Christopher Guest showed how each character was connected to their love ones, dogs. Each scene in the movie was focused o one couple who were preparing for the Mayflower Kennel Dog Show in Philadelphia,PA and what types of things they will do to their dog just for it to win the competition. For example there was a middle class couple in Florida who will sing about their dog Winky and through out the film they will encounter ex boyfriends of Cookie Fleck, the wife of Gerry Fleck. This film has portrayed the notion of happiness by demonstrating that people will do anything to strive for happiness and perfection, even if its through their dogs.

This film made excellent transitions from one couple to the next because each and everyone of them were connected to one goal, to win the dog show in PA By being a independent film/ documentary it helped the viewers gain a personal connection to each and every character represented in the film. It worked by showing different types of personalities and how the dogs were related to their owner. For example there was a Shih Zuh named Miss Agnes and she was owned by a gay couple. In comparison to the gay couple,Miss Agnes showed a sense of style and elegance just like one of the partners did during the dog show. The director did a great job conveying the idea of happiness and perfection to the audience because many of us have pets and were able to relate to the type of obstacles the characters had to go through with their dogs. It definitely impacted me because I take care of my dog as if she was another person in the family, so to view this movie I was able to relate like many other dog owners to what each couple had to go through to win the competition. It’s been told that by viewing one’s dog, you already know its owner.

School Note (response #5)

School note

The leaves are falling off the trees

The wind is blowing, the prefect autumn breeze

The sky is blue and the weather is so inviting

The thought of me going to school was frightening

No sun, no fresh air, and no play

I would not let school get in my way

I left early morning and headed to the park

I planned on staying here until dark

Just watching the animals and laying down

So relaxing I felt like a king without the crown

I never felt so alone within myself

Just me, my thoughts and no one else

This beautiful day led me towards my inner sanctuary

This escape for me was more than necessary

I was able to escape all of my stress

I even avoided that psychology test

I knew in a few days I would pay

Regarding my absence on that beautiful day

I must now do all the work that I missed

My parents found out and they were pissed

A school note came home about me cutting class

The only outside I would see was through the window’s glass

The Angry Person with the Broken Mirror

Excuse me, but this mirror is broken.

I see a pair of eyes, but they are the dullest eyes I know

I see a head full of hair, but it needs more straightening

I see brown skin, but it can use some toner

Oh, and I see a body that can shed a few pounds.

But this mirror is broken.

Because I know that

My eyes are a beautiful almond shape,

My hair is as natural and healthy as can be,

My skin is more radiant than a the summer sun

Oh! And my body is curvy and great.

This is an outrage!

People are looking at the wrong reflections,

so they should not take the blame for these broken mirrors!

Tell the glassmaker that I will never buy another one of his mirrors.

I want my money back! And an apology as well!
