Can archiving tweets create valuable insights?

At first, I was baffled on the worthiness of archiving every public tweet. But then, after economic class, I realized archiving every public tweet can provide value into what is happening now and how we have reacted to each event- for the historians and future generations. My economic professor said her professor (who is currently ninety years old) mentioned the price of a hamburger at the Lion’s Den near Columbia University back in 1939 was twenty cents! I don’t know if twenty cents was expensive or not for a hamburger at the time. With the consumer price index (CPI) calculation, based on 1939’s price, the price of a hamburger for the year 2010 should be around $3.13.

What people are tweeting during our own time may not provide much value to us. However, it may create valuable insights in to the “emotion of the times” which is hard to convey through the history book written through the voice of the third person.
