When it comes to the historical significance of themes concerning the development of New york, there were many important factors involved. However, two vital contributors to the successful development of the island of Manhattan were Crijn Fredericxsz and Willem Verhulst. Both of these men were essential in establishing a successful formula for urban development for the future.
With Fredericxsz’s Contribution to the urban development and organization of the first settlement at the southern tip of Manhattan and the implementation of such plans by Verhulst, their collaborative efforts reinvented a struggling and unorganized set of houses into one of the initial new world settlements that paved the way for developing future settlements and eventually cities. The significance of these then “new ideas” helped create a basic infrastructure stressing the importance of access to multiple water channels (the Hudson and East rivers) and the organization of towns. By creating designated residential, agricultural, and political spaces, room for growth was given letting all components of a successful settlement thrive in their own right.
