One specific event changed and connected the beginnings of New York City. This event is formally known as the Pavonia Massacre. The back story of this is that a death [and denial] of a Dutchman infuriated the Dutch and decided to get revenge. William Kieft, the director general of New Netherlands, decides to attack Pavonia, resulting in numerous deaths. This led to more fighting between them for atleast two years, when a treaty of peace was finally passed, including the Dutch settling in new found parts.
Although many people died throughout this entire back and forth battle, this ultimately led to greater things. Before this explosion, tensions were already rising. Without this bloody battle, more lands wouldn’t have been explored and setting the table for the English who came several years later.
