House fires was a major issue during colonial Massachusetts due to the lack of fire prevention technology. After numerous, fatal fires that broke out in the settlements, the community was forced to take necessary action. Massachusetts was said to have the most advanced fire protection technology of its time. This also encouraged the usage of bricks during structure construction.
