First man who explored western US

Hernando De Soto was the first explorer who had physical evidences left of crossing the Mississippi River. In 1539, he led 700 men and started his journal from North Carolina to Texas. Even though he dies in 1542, his men finally got Mexico in 1543.

Even though De Soto team didnt find anything that was physically useful for themselves but their expedition brought a lot of information for geography, biology and ethnology of the New World and the explorers helped to improve the relationship between natives n newer settler.
