The Triangle Shirtwaist fire in New York City, 1911, marked the fourth worst New York City tragedy with the most casualties. Factory workers, mostly women, were chained in to the factory building on the 9th and 10th floors by factory owners because they did not want them to leave early. This catastrophe led to a change in laws regarding safety in the work environment, but unfortunately the two factory owners were both acquitted.
