The New York Experience

Although the Revolutionary War was a national event, “The experience of New York City during the Revolutionary War was unique.” (pg 4) According to Homberger, throughout the war, New York was the only city under British rule, the whole way. It suffered the most damage, culturally and physically. Because of guerrilla welfare, thievery and fires, the city was suffering a great deal, while its inhabitants were slowly disappearing. (pg 4)

This is a significant argument where it shows how rich the history of New York is. While it may be a national war, New York’s experience was first handed and very special. They suffered the biggest impact and all the civilians saw everything close to home. The argument is quite persuasive  as it shows how New York was affected because of the war and how it was unique compared to all the other areas that were participants of the war.
