In the early 19th century, the existing states decided to created a educational system to prevent people from defying and keeping them in ‘social class order'(Chudacoff 52). The first state to lead the pack was Bo

Education was an important part of the urban expansion in the North
ston in 1818. I believe this change is vital for explaining events to follow because with education, people become less ignorant. Where public and private schools were established was primarily the North and in the West; therefore, the South stood behind the progression of education.
The South was clearly affected by this change because they were seen as the inferior between the two (North and South). During the Civil War, it was clearly seen how the North was more advanced in every way, including education. This gave a clear advantage to the North. It was good for the North to advance in education because without this headstart, the educational system might not be as strong as it is in the North. (The North is primarily known for great Universities).
Having a higher education is an advantage but I don’t fully understand how you can clearly compare the north and south at this time. During the time the north actually needed education because the economy was all about making money from nothing. So people needed knowledge and wisdom to come up with ways of making money. But the south on the other hand was making money from farming and all they really needed was man power. So the south didn’t need educated man to work the farm to pick cotton, plant seed, and etc. All they need was strong and welling people to do hard labor and that was where slaves came in to play. The north was overcrowded and people was running the streets doing nothing so many felt having schools will keep the kids busy but the south didn’t have the population as the north and most people in the south was slaves and they was consider property.
Well, I respect your opinion but I wasn’t comparing the North and the South at that time period, but during the Civil War. You could clearly see the differences then, but not in the early 1800s.
I agree with your argument. It seems to me especially important because of our reality. We see that nowadays education plays significant role in our future career, and as a rule out income depends on our school or university background proportionally. And i am not surprised that first people who began this reform are from Boston. Who knows may be that is why the best University – Harvard – located exactly in Boston.
