These so much that can get done in 24 hours especially when you don’t have school or a job. In the 1800’s many youth didn’t attend school nor had a job so all that was left was running around in the streets. Playing games or looking for trouble being boys many don’t really expect them to hang around to read a book or help out the elderly. Living around the time that they did didn’t leave them so want to do much. Many was living in poverty not really have much space at home or enough food to eat. So where was they going to get money. It was the mid 1900 when welfare was develop. So it was up to every individual to make a living for themselves. The way the economy was and living condition in urban areas didn’t actually make living easy for many. So the only way of getting money was taking it for those that had it or engaging in illegal activities.
Money can buy some people happiness any others miserable. In New York many found ways of making a blank piece of paper worth something. And that counterfeit. During this time many people didn’t actual know what to look for in a authehic bill. So many people was making they own money and trading it as if it was real money. The counterfeit bills was actually circulating around cities until banks got a hold of it. And the one caught was often the one that lost out on money. According to Johnson one way that people git rid of fake money was to ask for change from a stranger. Whe given change the individual will then hand over the fake bill for real bills. This brought along a lot lost of merchants since they was the one to likely receive the money and bank it.
But another thing was the actual fact that many people didnt have trust in banks so they was walking aroud with large sum of money at once. Knowing money was around in large amounts allowed groups to set up gangs so that they can pick pocket individuals in crowded places such as train, boats, street, and market. After a time people got tried 0f losing hard earn money to thieves.
The changes that was mad took lots of time and money. People didn’t trust the police or government to help out. For in many situation they didn’t actually know how to get criminals. So private investigators was hired and by doing so people found ways to catch thieves throw them in jail and stop the printing of money. I honestly think it was a good thing having private investigators working for you was better than cops or street petrol because many of them was inexperience. But the hired hunters actually took time and effort to capture the thieves and by doing so learn how they move function and work. Everything that they learnt was able to give wisdom to citizen, government and law officers and made thieves more scare of getting caught.
But when it comes to counterfeit it has just help the government find others ways of printing money. Doing so will allow citizen to obtain real currency that can be use to enhance the economy. And not money in robbers and thieves hands.
An interesting piece on money and forgery. I guess it brings out a point on the positive effects of joint efforts against crime. Police and private investigators are not enough, individuals should also be wary of being subject to theft or fraud and well informed on how to detect counterfeit. A little knowledge goes a long way and it most certainly applies to the present times as well.
