Sources are Awesome

  1. Evening Post: It was a newspaper of that time, which would be considered a primary source. The source would be quite trustworthy regarding actual events that took place. With regards to writings which are a little more opinionated, the print would be biased in one way or another. Just as we have right-wing and left-wing sides of news, we can be certain that the papers of those times were not absolutely neutral.
  2. O’Sullivan Diary: Practically all diaries are considered a primary source of information. However, because diaries are heavily influenced by personal experiences of the writer, the trustworthiness can be questioned. In fact, the diary may be a work of fiction, as it is written on the whim of the recorder.
  3. The Life of Arthur Tappan: This work would be considered a secondary source, as Arthur Tappan himself did not write it. The validity and the trustworthiness can be questioned, as the work was not written from firsthand experience. The author, Lewis Tappan, may actually seek to glorify his, seemingly, relative.
