The primary source ….

If the Revolution period and civil ware are the shifting points an American history , Tyler Anbinder introduced “five points” as  another shifting point in New York city history because this area contained  such multicultural clashes between the ethnic groups and political development of the city at early of 19th century.  No doubt that immigrants has shaped the city politically and economically since the early 19th century as “five points” conveyed. The author has used  many references to tackle this topic including primary source and secondary sources as well.

1- Times, July I, 1859; Tribune, June 13, 1850; family 63, fourth election district, Sixth Ward,1855 New York census; [James D. Bum], Three Years Among the Working-Classes (London,1865), 5-6.  This source on chapter 3  is a primary source because Times  was the first hand to report  ” A British immigrant described the typical breakfast…”(chapt3,p80).

2- Kildare, My Mamie Rose, 15; Harper’s Weekly 23 (August 9, 1879): 629; 27 (June 30,1883): 401, 410; 29 (August 1, 1885): 491, 496; Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper(August 12, 1882): 390 (quotations), 392-93; (July 23, 1887): 373.

This a secondary source because Kildare  retrieved the  fire incident and the casualties(chapt3,p89) from the a news paper .

3-  “Report … into the Condition of Tenant Houses in New-York and Brooklyn,” 18;

Primary source

Evening Post, May 17, 1849. this a primary source because it introduces information  date numbers and circumstances that required a presence of a reporter.
