I learned that the Barnum’s museum was once purposefully burnt. There were a lot of southern as well as northern artifacts in this museum. Uncle Tom’s Cabin must have been a popular book to be read, as it discusses the abhorring truth about slavery. During people’s leisure time, they went picture taking as photography was getting popular. Music was also being popular during the 19th Century NYC. Since a saxophone is lying near a diagram of a human brain, it’s safe to conclude that music was given as much of a credit as science.
As a historical tool, this website is pretty strong as it tries its best to display on the website what the museum would have looked like had we actually visited it. It possessed external sound, to make us feel as if we were in the museum during the 19th century. One thing that it does lack is it’s zoom power. If we can zoom in more, we can analyze the artifacts better. Also, it would be good to have something to read about and not just look at the artifacts without knowing what it is we are looking at and why we are looking at it. For example, the mermaid case was an interesting artifact. I am curious if it is real or if it was a work of art made by somebody. If there was a note indicating what the mermaid statue was, it would have been helpful.

Real or fake?
