Joice Heth Contract
*laughs hysterically*
Using the given website to access the 3D Barnum Museum was somewhat of a refreshing experience. It was not the typical reading assignment, and it was the exploration of a museum from the comfort and convenience of your own home. It was quite amusing as there were random songs and outbursts of weird laughter at different parts of the tour, which kept the viewer engaged.
This museum, as according to the website is located on the corner of Broadway and Ann Street in New York, and it holds many articles with significant meanings, which attracts viewers. The tour led me to the Lecture Room where I was exposed to apparent regulations or etiquettes (as they were called) for the residents of the time, which I find quite intriguing. I was also led to the 2nd Floor’s Picture Gallery where I found, in a drawer, the Joice Heth Contract. This contract shows the agreement between R.W. Lindsay of Kentucky and Barnum to sell, transfer, and deliver the ownership of Joice Heth and the permission to exhibit her for the remaining twelve months for which Lindsay had the right to exhibit Heth.
I believe this means of conveying information is effective due to the fact that it has sounds to keep the viewer continuously intrigued and also because it has captivating scenes. On the other hand, others may find this insulting because it is designed in a way where it would be suitable for a younger audience, and this might give the impression that their intelligence are being insulted. However, if learning requires breaking information down to a point where it would be understandable to eight (8) year olds, then I have no problem with it.
