The Emancipation of Slaves

A free slave

The website’s visual effects were effective in me understanding slavery more. I do feel as if it was too brief and straight to the point and could have been more effective if it was more explantory. The website also had an on the fence take on slavery. They did not depict any immorality in it rather they stated facts and statements about slavery. They also did not talk about life after slavery for the free blacks.

The readings however strongly crticized slavery especially Horton’s. He opposed in a more biased manner as he was completely against it. They readings also showed the amount of suffering and harsh treatment metted on the slaves. Chudacoff talks about life after slavery in greater detail. “…. African American leaders petioned Congress and state legislatures to abolish slavery and grant full political rights to black citizens. They also established community institutions where African Americans could pray and eduvate their children” (Chudacoff Pg 69)

One Response to The Emancipation of Slaves

I disagree here Benjamin, I found the website to be more effective than the readings. It seemed to delve more into the stories of significant enslaved people which I found to be more interesting and impact full than the plain facts being stated in the readings.
