Boats and Slaves

Despite your race or gender every single has learned about slavery in the United States. After all it did result in the Civil War. However when you are taught about slavery it is commonly taught as a negative. Sort of unknowingly biased. This is not the case with the website slavery in New York. This website seems to be sort of a fun informative source. They are very unbiased in that that state both sides of slavery. They do it in a very clever way also. They show you pictures that tie into what they are saying. I also saw the unbiased in Horton and Horton. He actually states “Their cultures(referring to African Americans), with characteristic beliefs, values, lan- guages, music, and aesthetic styles, blended from the beginning with Native American and European cultures to create a distinctive American culture.” He makes this point that although African Americans were slaves they added various aspects to our culture as well as everyone else.

Everyone is indeed entitled to their own opinion and in Whites article I felt that he wasn’t only stating his information. It was almost as if he was attacking New York a little it which is ironic because he says how much he loves the city. It felt to me as if he was waving around a secret diary saying “hey look what I found out. Look what I’ve got in my hands historians.” I think perhaps this is also due to the fact that he’s so interested in Black American history in general. Homberger also is stating only the horrors African American’s endured. As I stated they are entitled their opinions and their writing style.

Over all I do think every author achieved their goals. Each writer has their own individual way to get across their point. I did like White’s style although to me he came across a little bias. Each gives informative writing which is very useful to the reader. White and Homberger seem to play more on the severity of slavery oppose to Horton and Horton and the website. Although the websites pictures do have an aesthetically dramatic effect.
