As We Riot..

In Bernstein, The New York City Draft Riots and Virtual New York website, we learned about the Draft Riots that shook New York City. The amount of violence and bloodshed made it into a monumental event of New York City history. The Draft Riots were a result of the passing of the National Conscription Act in 1863. The riot lasted 4 days, with mainly targets from the poor black and white community. The intensity of the violence was extremely significant for the African American community because they were attacked on the streets, in their homes and some were even murdered. No one was safe and it was complete chaos in the city.

Bernstein and the Virtual New York website both did a good job in providing useful information about the event. Bernstein’s was a lot longer and detailed but was more broad. The website was more focused and detailed in terms of the Draft Riots since it was written in a journal format. The website made it easier to read and easier to learn. The only thing is, the website would be even more appealing if it had more visuals/pictures.
