Bernstein and the website both make arguments around Draft Riots during the 19th century. This particular draft riot was in part due to the Conscription Act of 1863. Passed by President Lincoln to gain larger forces to fight the south, many Northerners began to grow angry. This anger which was mostly focused in Irish immigrants was expressed through the murder of African Americans and large riots.
Bernstein’s argument incorporates these details in a very broad view while including some images. On the other hand, the website was more direct and focused towards a specific goal. For example, the website showed the four days in which the riots were taking place as well as the aftermath of the riots – the aftermath was the destruction of private and public property and the deaths of many African Americans. Either way, both sources incorporated a thorough knowledge of draft riots. To improve the website, I would include more animations and pictures.
