Trolley Here, Trolley There

The cable car era of New York lasted for 2 decades; but by the time the 20th century rolled along, these cable cars were replaced by electric trolleys. It became a major mode of urban transportation. (Chudacoff, 84) Frank Sprague who was an electrician was the one that successfully modeled the system for the trolley. So instead of horse railways and cable cars, we have transportation that is more efficient and faster; powered by electricity.

Because of these new transportation ideas, it became easier and faster to go to places, in and out of the state. It also spread people to outlying areas [Chudacoff, 86) Prior to the development of mass transit, only wealthy merchants could afford these trips but now it helped spread to other financial classes of people. (Chudacoff, 87) So because of these improvements, bigger areas of land, cities, etc. are able to be connected more, and everywhere became easier to get to and more technical/modern.
